Appropriateness of patients transferred with orthopedic injuries: experience of a level I trauma center.
Trauma patients are frequently transferred to a higher level of care for specialized orthopedic care. Many of these transfers are not necessary and waste valuable resources. The purpose of this study was to quantify our own experience and to assess the appropriateness of orthopedic transfers to a level I trauma center emergency department. ⋯ Inappropriate transfers create a significant medical burden to our health care system using valuable resources. Our study found similar results of inappropriate transfers compared to previous studies. However, we did not find a relationship between insurance status or nights/weekends and transfer appropriateness.

Outcome of osteosynthesis for periprosthetic fractures after total knee arthroplasty: a retrospective study.
Incidence of periprosthetic fractures around knee is going to rise in near future due to dramatic increase in total knee arthroplasty (TKA). Our study is a retrospective case series describing the outcome of osteosynthesis for periprosthetic fractures after TKA. ⋯ Osteosynthesis for periprosthetic fractures around knee with locked compression plate gives promising results. Fractures involving patella are associated with inferior functional outcome. Understanding the fracture pattern and bone stock available for fixation with correct choice of implant and correct surgical technique gives promising outcome in periprosthetic fractures around knee.

The smartphone inclinometer: A new tool to determine elbow range of motion?
There are easily accessible tools on smartphones (APP) for measuring elbow range of motion (ROM). The purpose of this study is to evaluate the validity of a particular APP in determining elbow ROM in comparison with the commonly used goniometer (GON), surgeon estimation of range (EST) and measurement on X-ray (XR). ⋯ III, Retrospective review of a prospective cohort of elbow fracture patients: Diagnostic Study.

Review Meta AnalysisRisk of revision and dislocation in single, dual mobility and large femoral head total hip arthroplasty: systematic review and network meta-analysis.
Postoperative dislocation is a challenging complication after total hip arthroplasty (THA) that affects patient outcome worldwide. Instability is one of the main complications with rates exceeding 20% in some series. Currently, alternative acetabular components are available with dual mobility (DMTHA) bearing surfaces and larger femoral head size that may reduce the risk of dislocation, yet provide the functional benefit of standard single mobility (STHA) bearing surface THA. ⋯ We recommend using dual mobility and big head as an implant for safety in THA. However, there were only two studies that reported long-term survivorship (more than 5 years, with follow-up of 5-15 years). Further research that assesses long-term survivorship is necessary to further evaluate which implants are the best for THA.

Review Meta Analysis Comparative StudyComparative outcomes of combined corticosteroid with low volume compared to high volume of local anesthetic in subacromial injection for impingement syndrome: systematic review and meta-analysis of RCTs.
Subacromial impingement syndrome (SIS) is one of the most frequent pathologies of the shoulder, which may cause serious restriction of daily activities and lifestyle changes. Corticosteroid injection (CI) into the subacromial space is a palliative treatment option. Currently, there have been no studies that compare between the different volumes of CI injection. ⋯ However, there are no statistically significant differences between groups. Larger, randomized noninferiority or equivalent trial studies are needed to confirm these findings as the current literature is still insufficient. Level of evidence I.
