Comparative StudyClinical outcomes of two minimally invasive transforaminal lumbar interbody fusion (TLIF) for lumbar degenerative diseases.
There are two modified TLIF, including MIS-TLIF and TLIF through Wiltse approach (W-TLIF). Although both of the two minimally invasive surgical procedures can be effective in the treatment for lumbar degenerative diseases, no comparative analysis has been made so far regarding their clinical outcomes. ⋯ Both methods are effective in the treatment for lumbar degenerative disease. MIS-TLIF has less blood loss, shorter surgical incision, and less lower postoperative back pain, while W-TLIF is less expensive for hospital stay with lower exposure to X-rays.

ReviewSurgical and nonsurgical treatments for lumbar spinal stenosis.
Lumbar spinal stenosis (LSS) is the most common indication for spinal surgery in older adults; however, the efficacy of surgery for LSS as compared to nonsurgical treatments remains unclear. Here, we reviewed numerous studies, including randomized control trails (RCTs), to compare nonsurgical and surgical treatments for LSS. ⋯ Although decompressive surgical treatment is associated with modestly successful outcomes, it remains unclear whether decompression combined with fusion surgery results in clinical outcomes that are superior to those following decompression surgery alone. Future RCTs assessing the effectiveness of specific treatments based on high-quality scientific evidence are expected to aid clinical decision-making and improve treatment outcomes for LSS.

Retrograde dynamic locked intramedullary nailing for aseptic supracondylar femoral nonunion after dynamic condylar screw treatment.
Supracondylar femoral nonunions after dynamic condylar screw (DCS) treatment are uncommon, and few studies have addressed an optimal treatment technique for this disorder. Re-insertion of a new plate may not be secure because of bony defects in the distal fragment, created by the lag screw of the DCS. ⋯ The described technique may be an excellent alternative treatment for an aseptic supracondylar femoral nonunion after DCS treatment. The technique is not difficult, and the union rate and satisfactory rate are high.

Return to sport after ACL reconstruction: a survey between the Italian Society of Knee, Arthroscopy, Sport, Cartilage and Orthopaedic Technologies (SIGASCOT) members.
A worldwide consensus for timing and criteria for return to sport after anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) reconstruction is lacking. The aim of the study was to survey among the Italian Society of Knee, Arthroscopy, Sport, Cartilage and Orthopaedic Technologies (SIGASCOT) members in order to evaluate their approaches to the return to sport after ACL reconstruction regarding timing and criteria. ⋯ Level V, expert opinion.

Nonunions after operative fixation of the femur, although infrequent, remain a challenge for orthopedic surgeons. The aim of this study was to assess the effectiveness of double locking plate fixation in the treatment for femoral shaft nonunions. ⋯ Because of the high union rates and lack of significant complications in our series, double locking plate fixation can serve as an effective method of addressing femoral shaft nonunions. No significant complications were found postoperatively.
