ReviewAcupuncture plus Chinese Herbal Medicine for Irritable Bowel Syndrome with Diarrhea: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis.
To comprehensively evaluate the efficacy and safety of acupuncture combined with Chinese herbal medicine (CHM) in treating irritable bowel syndrome with diarrhea (IBS-D). ⋯ Findings in this study indicate that acupuncture combined with CHM is suggestive of an effective and safe treatment approach for IBS-D patients, which may serve as a promising method to treat IBS-D in practical application. However, more large-scale, multicenter, long-term, and high-quality RCTs are required in the future, given the small size, low quality, and high risk of the studies identified in this meta-analysis.

ReviewThe Effect of Berberine on Reproduction and Metabolism in Women with Polycystic Ovary Syndrome: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis of Randomized Control Trials.
To assess the efficacy and safety of berberine on reproductive endocrine and metabolic outcomes in women with polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS). ⋯ This review found no solid evidence that berberine could improve live birth or other clinical outcomes in women with PCOS. However, berberine appeared to be more efficacious for improving insulin resistance and dyslipidemia and decreasing androgen levels and LH/FSH ratio in women with PCOS when compared with metformin.

Antidepressant Effect of Tetragonia tetragonoides (Pall.) Kuntze Extract on Serotonin Turnover.
Tetragonia tetragonoides (Pall.) Kuntze (TTK) is a groundcover found along coastal areas of the Korean peninsula. TTK is traditionally used to improve women's health and treat gastrointestinal diseases. Use of herbal medicines in the treatment of mood disorders has recently been suggested as an alternative therapeutic strategy. ⋯ Moreover, immobility time in the forced swimming test was reduced by 1% and 2% TTK treatment but not altered by 0.5% TTK treatment in OVX female rats. Taken together, these results indicate that TTK may significantly inhibit depressive-like symptoms due to upregulation of serotonin level(s) and regulation of serotonin reuptake activity. Thus, TTK may exert beneficial effects on depression during pre- or/and postmenopausal periods via modulation of serotonin synthesis and metabolism.

Ultrasound-Guided Percutaneous Release Procedures in the Lumbar Ligamentum Flavum by Acupotomy: A Cadaveric study.
This study aims to determine the methods of percutaneous release procedures in the lumbar ligamentum flavum (LF) under ultrasound guidance by acupotomy and provide an anatomical basis for intrusive treatment of lumbar disc herniation and lumbar spinal canal stenosis. ⋯ In this study, ultrasound guidance was applied, which better guaranteed the safety and feasibility of acupotomy therapy. Before performing the treatment, the depth of needle penetration in the human body can be determined by measuring the distance between the needle point and the target position on the ultrasound image. Under ultrasound guidance, the transverse-axis approach has a smaller puncture depth and greater puncture angle than the longitudinal-axis approach. Hence, this study believes that the transverse-axis approach is safer for the clinical application of ultrasound-guided LF acupotomy lysis.
