Living donor liver transplantation is a well established modality, especially for pediatric transplantation with excellent early graft function and long-term results. Left lateral sectionectomy through open approach is a well-standardized procedure. ⋯ The patient was a child 6-months old, affected by biliary atresia and rapidly deteriorating while waiting on a deceased donor liver graft. Surgical technique and key-points of this procedure in the living donor are hereby discussed.

Meckel's diverticulum is the most common congenital anomaly of the gastro-intestinal tract. It is generally asymptomatic. ⋯ We present a case of a 21-year-old female with intussusception due to inverted Meckel's diverticulum. Diagnosis and therapy of inverted Meckel's diverticulum is a subject of debate because of its rarity and the limited number of reports in the literature.

Perforation of the cervical oesophagus after thyroidectomy is an exceptionally rare complication. Total thyroidectomies, particularly for recurrent cases might possess an increased risk. ⋯ A patient that developed oesophagus perforation after a total thyroidectomy in a peripheral hospital for recurrent nodular goitre was treated and followed-up in our clinic. This well-documented case is discussed in conjunction with the information presented in the literature.

To evaluate our initial results with the titanium transverse plate fixation system of the sternum in four patients. ⋯ The titanium transverse plate fixation system is a very promising adjunct to the armamentarium of the cardio-thoracic surgeon for treatment of sternal problems, including dehiscence and fractures, even when mediastinitis is involved. It offers more stability compared to simple rewiring, without the need for extensive retrosternal dissection.

Randomized Controlled Trial Comparative Study
A quality of life comparison of laparoscopic and open approaches in acute appendicitis: a randomised prospective study.
The study aimed to evaluate the utility of a laparoscopic approach in the management of patients with right lower abdominal pain and in the quality of life after the operation. ⋯ Laparoscopic appendectomy is a safe method, which also has advantages of diagnostic procedure for other pathologies, a better quality of life both in the early and late period, and a short hospital stay. The important advantage is also seen in the late period with better quality of life.
