Anesthetic techniques for pharyngeal flap surgery: effects on postoperative complications.
To assess the effects of 2 different anesthetic techniques on early complications after superior pharyngeal flap surgery. ⋯ When compared with isoflurane administration for maintenance of general anesthesia, propofol-based anesthesia was associated with more rapid mental and psychomotor recovery. However, airway-related complications and "home readiness" were similar between the groups.

To demonstrate the safety of conscious sedation in draining peritonsillar abscesses (PTAs). ⋯ Our series, when combined with previously published data, demonstrates that conscious sedation can be safely used when draining a PTA in pediatric patients.

Ropivacaine with or without clonidine improves pediatric tonsillectomy pain.
To determine if preemptive analgesia with ropivacaine hydrochloride with or without clonidine hydrochloride decreases pain and hastens recovery after tonsillectomy. ⋯ Preincisional injection of ropivacaine with clonidine prior to tonsillectomy has a preemptive analgesic effect that outlasts the local anesthetic and decreases pain, opioid use, and the time to return to normal activity.

Therapeutic electrical stimulation of the hypoglossal nerve in obstructive sleep apnea.
Hypoglossal nerve stimulation has been demonstrated to relieve upper airway obstruction acutely, but its effect on obstructive sleep apnea is not known. ⋯ The findings demonstrate the feasibility and therapeutic potential for hypoglossal nerve stimulation in obstructive sleep apnea.
