[Amyand's hernia: a report of two cases and review of the bibliography].
Presence of the vermiform appendix in an inguinal hernia sac is an uncommon finding (1%), exceptionally rare if it's inflamed (0.13%). Clinically simulating incarcerated inguinal hernia and proper preoperative diagnosis is exceptional. We present two unusual cases of Amyand's hernia, and review of the bibliography. ⋯ Amyand's hernia is a rare entity whose preoperative diagnosis is uncommon, that it should always be considered in the differential diagnosis in cases with clinical signs of incarcerated right inguinal hernia.

Procalcitonin is a quite specific biomarker of infection and in recent years has shown its superiority to others markers of inflammation, such as C-reactive protein, for the diagnosis and monitoring of a variety of infections. ⋯ This review summarizes these data and discuss the utility of procalcitonin in several intra abdominal infections, including postoperative infections.

[Surgical treatment of hypospadias and complications in relation to the child's age].
Hypospadias is one of the most common congenital malformations. Few studies have explored the association of age at time of surgery and the occurrence of complications after hypospadias repair. ⋯ Age at time of surgery for hypospadias correction in one phase is not associated with complications.

Many changes have been done to set up a National Universal Health System, in response to the challenge that warranties efficiently and with quality the right of protecting health of more than 117 million people in Mexico, in spite of its social or working status. Several objectives have been taken to get this achievement: 1. Reinforcement of the Secretaria de Salud as health authority. 2. ⋯ Reinforcement of clearness and outstanding bills 6. Prompt and personalized attention no matters working status. Thus here we present the strategies and policies taken to achieve this challenge.

Few cases have been reported in children and adolescents of sigmoid diverticulitis. Most of the case reports in medical literature are associated with true congenital diverticula and genetic diseases of collagen synthesis. ⋯ There are only case reports about colonic diverticulitis in children and adolescents, and its etiology has not yet been well established. This patient had sigmoid pseudo-diverticula and did not present genetic concomitant disease. This case is an exception to data reported on literature about diverticular disease in this population.
