The prognostic role of Neurologic Pupil Index in COVID-19 patients: a retrospective study.
Neurological complications have been observed in approximately 30% of hospitalized COVID-19 patients. The aim of this study was to evaluate whether early assessment of the Neurological Pupil Index (NPiTM) derived from an automated pupillometry could predict mortality in critically ill COVID-19 patients. ⋯ In this study, NPi values were not independent predictor of mortality and neurological complications in critically ill COVID-19 patients.

Measuring the outward migration of the nasotracheal tube at vocal cords with head and neck extension: a novel approach using a flexible bronchoscope in patients undergoing head and neck oncosurgery.
Head and neck extension achieves optimal surgical exposure during head and neck oncosurgeries. However, it can lead to cephalad migration of the tracheal tube, causing complications. Preventing shallow intubation is essential, especially in patients with difficult airway. Using an innovative technique, we aimed to measure the proximal migration of the nasotracheal tube at the vocal cords on neck extension in patients with difficult airway. ⋯ The major contributing factor for the increase in TT tip-to-carina distance on neck extension was tracheal elongation rather than outward migration of the TT at vocal cords.

Lumbar and sacral tattoos are popular amongst all ages. Some physicians are concerned that passing a needle through a pigmented area during lumbar puncture may deposit toxic material into the central nervous system, resulting in late complications. ⋯ There is insufficient evidence to endorse placement of a needle through a tattoo into the neuraxis before it is completely healed. The Fermi paradox 'absence of evidence is not evidence of absence of effect' still holds in light of emerging evidence that tattoos may be linked to lymphoma.
