ReviewPerioperative planning for cardiovascular operations in the COVID-19 pandemic.
Coronavirus disease-2019 (COVID-19) is a serious health concern which alert all healthcare professionals worldwide. There are two main issues caused by this pandemic regarding for the healthcare system. ⋯ Second, it is essential to perform surgery and intensive care unit follow-up in a setting where the infection prevention measures are followed for primary patients requiring emergency cardiovascular surgery. In this article, we present necessary precautions to be exercised to provide the patient safety and the highest level of protection for the surgical team.

The relationship between inotropic support therapy and central partial pressure of venous-arterial carbon dioxide after cardiopulmonary bypass.
This study aims to investigate the effects of partial pressure of venous-arterial carbon dioxide changes in the early period after cardiopulmonary bypass in patients who did or did not receive inotropic support therapy and the effect of these changes on tissue perfusion. ⋯ This study demonstrated that partial pressure of venous-arterial carbon dioxide increased in the first few hours and remained to be high for 24 hours after cardiopulmonary bypass independently of the use of inotropic support. However, in the postoperative period, even after lactate and base excess levels return to baseline values, partial pressure of venous-arterial carbon dioxide may continue to remain at high values, which may indicate impaired perfusion in some tissues.

Frequency of development of aspirin resistance in the early postoperative period and inadequate inhibition of thromboxane A2 production after coronary artery bypass surgery.
This study aims to investigate the frequency of the development of aspirin resistance, whether or not this resistance was reversible, and to evaluate the efficiency of the mechanism of incomplete inhibition of thromboxane A2 in development of aspirin resistance in the early postoperative period in patients who had undergone coronary artery bypass grafting. ⋯ The results of this study suggest that aspirin resistance develops within the first seven days after coronary artery bypass grafting and is highly reversible, and that the mechanism of inadequate inhibition of thromboxane A2 by aspirin has a role in the development of aspirin resistance in the early postoperative period.

Experience in totally implantable venous port catheter: Analysis of 3,000 patients in 12 years.
This study aims to present our experience with patients who were performed totally implantable venous port catheter. ⋯ Totally implantable venous port catheter may increase the quality of life in cancer patients. Despite possible complications, totally implantable venous port catheter is safe and comfortable for long-term intravenous treatment. Possible complications may be prevented or managed when totally implantable venous port catheter is performed by surgeons with adequate experience.

Results of late-onset type A aortic dissection after previous cardiac surgery: Does prior coronary artery bypass grafting affect survival?
This study aims to evaluate the results of late-onset type A aortic dissection following primary cardiac surgery and to compare the outcomes of patients with or without prior coronary artery bypass grafting. ⋯ Type-A aortic dissections may develop after cardiac operations with or without coronary artery bypass grafting at any time, and irrespective of associated histologies, they may result in high overall in-hospital mortality. With careful planning by prompt intervention, the outcomes in redo sternotomy operations with or without coronary artery bypass grafting for aortic dissections would be consistent the results of spontaneous aortic dissections.
