It remains unclear whether stereotactic radiosurgery (SRS) offers the same benefit for patients with type 2 trigeminal neuralgia (TN2) as for those with type 1 trigeminal neuralgia (TN1). The objective of this study is to compare the outcomes of patients with TN1 and TN2 after SRS. ⋯ SRS offers similar rates of initial pain relief, pain score distribution, pain recurrence, and time to pain recurrence between patients with TN1 and TN2. The time to initial pain relief was longer for patients with TN2.

Diastatic skull fractures (DSFs) in children are difficult to detect in skull radiographs before they develop into growing skull fractures; therefore, little information is available on this topic. However, recent advances in 3-dimensional (3D) computed tomography (CT) imaging technology have enabled more accurate diagnoses of almost all forms of skull fracture. The present study was undertaken to document the clinical characteristics of DSFs in children and to determine whether 3D CT enhances diagnostic accuracy. ⋯ 3D CT was found to be markedly superior to skull radiography or 2D CT for detecting DSFs. This finding indicates that 3D CT should be used routinely rather than 2D CT for the assessment of pediatric head trauma.

Stereotactic radiosurgery (SRS) is a well-established treatment modality for cerebral arteriovenous malformations (AVMs). The main limiting factor in the radiosurgical treatment of AVMs is the volume of the nidus, with high-grade lesions often requiring combined treatment to reduce the SRS target volume. To overcome this limitation, we have been using a combined treatment approach consisting of endovascular embolization with Onyx followed by SRS. ⋯ The multimodality treatment of cerebral AVMs using embolization with Onyx followed by SRS is feasible and safe. The use of Onyx significantly reduced the SRS treatment target volume.

This prospective study was undertaken to investigate the value of early S100 calcium binding protein B (S100B) and neuron-specific enolase (NSE) in prognosticating outcome in patients with poor-grade aneurysmal subarachnoid hemorrhage and to develop a statistical model and cutoff values for clinical practice. ⋯ S100B and NSE measured during the first 3 days after hemorrhage showed, separately and combined, a significant predictive value in prognosticating clinical outcome in patients with poor-grade subarachnoid hemorrhage. A multicenter study with a large patient cohort is necessary to validate the above-mentioned cutoff values for clinical practice.

Comparison of different sequences of MRI and Ultrasongram with Nerve Conduction Studies in peripheral neuropathies.
Peripheral neuropathies refer to a group of disorders in which there is damage to the nerves of the peripheral nervous system. Electrophysiologic studies are the main stay for the diagnosis of peripheral neuropathies. However, direct visualization of the nerves is possible with exact localization of site of disease with high-resolution ultrasonography (USG) and 3-Tesla magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) scanner, and newer magnetic resonance (MR) sequences. ⋯ USG is a sensitive technique to diagnose peripheral neuropathies and it should be used as a screening modality for focused MR to be performed later. Turbo spin echo T2W fast spin has the highest sensitivity to identify nerve disease and is comparable with nerve conduction studies. Among the newer sequences, diffusion tensor imaging should be performed to increase diagnostic confidence.
