Postoperative neurosurgical infection rates after shared-resource intraoperative magnetic resonance imaging - a single center experience with 195 cases.
To determine the rate of surgical-site infections (SSI) in neurosurgical procedures involving a shared-resource intraoperative magnetic resonance imaging (ioMRI) scanner at a single institution derived from a prospective clinical quality management database. ⋯ The use of a shared-resource ioMRI in neurosurgery did not demonstrate increased rates of infection compared with the current available literature. The likelihood of infection decreased with the accumulating number of operations, underlining the importance of surgical staff training after the introduction of a shared-resource ioMRI.

Hemangioblastomas in the cerebellopontine angle (CPA) are uncommon and have rarely been reported. They may be easily misdiagnosed because of the atypical location and clinical and imaging features. The present study aimed to characterize clinical and radiologic features, treatment strategies, and outcomes in these rare lesions and to investigate various factors that may affect postoperative outcomes. ⋯ Although hemangioblastomas of the CPA are challenging lesions to treat surgically, they can be removed safely when these lesions are appropriately diagnosed and treated. Patients with VHL disease are more likely to have a local recurrence. A regular follow-up is recommended to detect the local and distant recurrence, even if the clinical course is benign and the tumor is totally resected.

Almost every surgical approach carries the risk of causing some degree of spinal instability, especially in cases of excessive resection of the lamina and facet joint. This study describes the endoscopic intralaminar approach (ILA) for the treatment of cranially and caudally migrated lumbar disc herniation. ⋯ Endoscopic ILA is a safe technique for the treatment of cranially and caudally migrated lumbar disc herniations. Careful procedural planning is recommended to protect soft tissue and osseous structures and to achieve excellent clinical outcome.

Stroke in young adults is uncommon and rarely described. Moyamoya disease is one of the leading causes of stroke in young adults. We aimed to study the prognostic factors for stroke recurrences and functional outcomes in young stroke patients with moyamoya disease after revascularization. ⋯ We identified diabetes as an independent risk factor for recurrent strokes and unfavorable functional outcomes after revascularization in young stroke patients with moyamoya disease.

Comparison of Two Three-dimensional Printed Models of Complex Intracranial Aneurysms for Surgical Simulation.
To compare two 3-dimensional (3D) printed models of intracranial aneurysms for simulation and training for complex aneurysm surgery. ⋯ The whole and regional 3D printed aneurysm models were accurate. The whole model was more useful for planning the trajectory of approach to the aneurysm when it was located in close proximity to bone and nerves, whereas the regional 3D aneurysm model was appropriate for aneurysms not involving bone and nerves. This will help neurosurgeon choose the proper 3D model for the complex aneurysm surgery according to the comparison.
