Readmissions in Anticoagulated Intracranial Hemorrhage Patients: A Retrospective Review.
To determine the effect of direct oral anticoagulants (DOACs) compared with warfarin on the 30-day readmission rates in patients with traumatic intracranial hemorrhage (ICH). ⋯ Warfarin use is associated with higher readmission rates in patients with intracranial bleeding for both all-cause readmissions and for intracranial rebleeding.

No study to date has established how commonly spontaneous fusion occurs after stand-alone percutaneous pedicle screw fixation in adult population. In this retrospective single-center study, we investigated the effectiveness, long-term solidity and safety of stand-alone percutaneous pedicle screw fixation without in situ fusion and the influence of presence or absence of fusion on the clinical outcome of patients with low-grade lumbar segmental instability. ⋯ Percutaneous pedicle screw fixation offers several advantages that help minimize approach-related morbidity, while achieving similar clinical outcome as seen with more traditional invasive procedures. A solid fixation without bone graft provides long-term clinical benefits. In our patients, the appearance of a spontaneous solid fusion and the absence of fusion after stand-alone pedicle screw fixation were correlated with similar improved clinical outcomes at long-term follow-up.

Usefulness of FDG-PET in comparison with methionine-PET in differentiating solid hemangioblastoma from adult cerebellar tumors.
Among adults with posterior fossa tumors, an intraaxial location of the tumor is less common than an extraaxial location. Moreover, the differential diagnosis of a single cerebellar tumor in adults is sometimes difficult by conventional magnetic resonance imaging. We aimed to report the findings of positron emission tomography (PET) using 18F-fluorodeoxyglucose (FDG) and methionine in adult patients with intraaxial and solitary metastatic brain tumors. ⋯ FDG-PET was helpful in differentiating HBs from adult cerebellar tumors.

Subarachnoid hemorrhage caused by rupture of tuberculosis associated aneurysm is a rare complication. In this paper, we report a case of intracranial tuberculum with adjacent intracerebral inflammatory aneurysm which caused subarachnoid hemorrhage and brain abscess formation. ⋯ Tuberculosis in the central nervous system may present as tuberculoma and tuberculous meningitis. Vasculitis secondary to tuberculous meningitis can cause infarcts, and, rarely, aneurysm formation. This case report illustrated a rare case of intracranial infectious aneurysm related to tuberculosis and complicated by hemorrhage and brain abscess.

To date, trabecular morphology studies have been conducted on thin-section computed tomography (CT) scans of cadaveric bone. Here we describe the trabecular anatomy of the axis vertebra as revealed by an innovative imaging tool. ⋯ Shaded volume-rendered imaging appears to be an excellent tool for studying the trabecular anatomy of cancellous bone. The weight-bearing trabeculae run from the C1-2 facet to the C3 body; the inferior facet contributes little to weight-bearing.
