The present study aims to define the outcome and risks of patients with multiple arteriovenous malformations (AVMs) treated by stereotactic radiosurgery (SRS). ⋯ Patients with complex multiple AVMs often presented with a brain hemorrhage. Reduction in bleeding risk after SRS requires complete obliteration that is more likely if the initial AVM margin dose is ≥18 Gy for each AVM.

Solid/cystic hemangioblastomas are rare, and they lack a systematic description. We clarify the epidemiology, clinical features, imaging characteristics, and surgical outcomes of sporadic solid/cystic hemangioblastomas in the cerebellum. ⋯ Cerebellar sporadic solid/cystic hemangioblastomas are rare and usually affect elderly people. The combination of computed tomography angiography and magnetic resonance imaging may improve the preoperative diagnosis. Solid/cystic hemangioblastomas showed the lowest rate of gross total resection as a result of the obscure brain-tumor interface.

Pseudomeningocele is an uncommon but widely recognized complication of spinal surgery that can be challenging to correct. When conservative measures fail, patients frequently require reoperation to attempt primary closure of the durotomy, yet attempts at true watertight closures of the dura or fascia sometimes fall short. We describe a technique of lumbosacral pseudomeningocele repair involving a 2-layer pants-over-vest closure of the pseudomeningocele coupled with mobilization of bilateral paraspinal musculature to create a Z-plasty, or a Z-shaped flap. We have demonstrated a high success rate with our small series. ⋯ This technique provides a straightforward option for the spine surgeon to manage these challenging spinal wounds with minimal, if any, need for further laminectomy as well as a high fistula control rate with minimal morbidity.

Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) is a severe respiratory viral illness that has spread rapidly across the world. However, the United Kingdom has been particularly affected. Evidence has suggested that stroke, cardiac, and spinal presentations decreased during the pandemic as the public avoided seeking care. The effect on neurosurgical presentations and referrals during COVID-19 is unclear. Our aim, therefore, was to describe the referral patterns to a high-volume neurosurgical department in the United Kingdom during the COVID-19 pandemic. ⋯ The referrals for degenerative spine and traumatic brain injuries decreased significantly during the pandemic, which can be explained by the lower vehicular traffic and patient avoidance of healthcare services, respectively. The risk of neurological deterioration and increased morbidity and mortality, as a consequence, is of concern, and neurosurgeons worldwide should consider the optimal strategies to mitigate these risks as the pandemic eases.

Return to work and driving are major rehabilitation goals for patients after an aneurysmal subarachnoid hemorrhage (aSAH). Our goal is to identify factors that may predict return to work or driving after aSAH. ⋯ Because work may be highly dependent on complex individual and social factors, driving is a simple and more accurate assessment for an individual's status after aSAH.
