To assess and compare clinical outcomes and sagittal balance after unstable hangman fracture between C2-C3 anterior discectomy and fusion (ACDF) and posterior C2-C3 short-segment fixation and fusion. ⋯ Both anterior and posterior surgical techniques are effective for unstable hangman fracture and both can restore the sagittal balance of the cervical spine. Furthermore, the posterior approach has an advantage over the anterior approach in promoting recovery of cervical sagittal balance.

Spinal dural arteriovenous fistula (SDAVF) is a rare spinal vascular malformation which can cause permanent neurologic dysfunction. The purpose of this study was to investigate the relationship between the clinical and imaging characteristics of SDAF and its prognosis. ⋯ Preoperative ALS scores are associated with improved prognosis in patients with SDAVF. Both surgical ligation and endovascular embolization can improve functional outcomes and delay disease progression.

Heterogeneity of Growth Hormone Receptor Expression in Craniopharyngioma - Implications for Surgical Strategy.
Recent molecular investigations for craniopharyngiomas have investigated possible predictive biologic markers. Growth hormone receptor (GHR) is thought to be involved in tumor aggressiveness, and high expression of GHR is associated with shorter duration of postoperative stable disease. ⋯ Extensive removal of the possible tumor bed may be necessary for patients requiring growth hormone supplementation even after gross total removal of craniopharyngioma.

To investigate mechanism of endoplasmic reticulum (ER) stress-mediated autophagy in spinal cord injury (SCI). ⋯ Our study showed that NGF-induced PC12 cells can induce autophagy and ER stress after mechanical injury. ER stress inhibitor 4-PBA obtained similar effects to PI3K inhibitor LY294002, enhanced autophagy via PI3K/AKT/mTOR signaling pathway.
