To explore the applications of 3-dimensional digital subtraction angiography (3D-DSA) double-volume reconstruction technique (DVRT) in endovascular embolization for the treatment of intracranial aneurysm. ⋯ 3D-DVRT for intracranial aneurysm embolization provides the best working angle, clearly shows the process of aneurysm embolization and its relationship with peripheral vessels, and reduces the occurrence of surgical complications including postoperative recurrence, thrombosis, and cerebral infarction.

To evaluate the biomechanical stability of stand-alone (SA) oblique lateral interbody fusion (OLIF) under different bone mineral density conditions. ⋯ With the increase of the degree of osteoporosis, the maximum stress on the upper and lower end plates of the fusion segment increased significantly, thus increasing the potential risk of implant subsidence. SA OLIF could not provide sufficient stability for patients with osteoporosis.

Ogilvie syndrome (OS) is a rare but serious condition seen in the postoperative period. This was an epidemiologic study using data from the National Inpatient Sample from 2005 to 2014 to look at incidence, risk factors, and outcomes associated with OS after primary spine fusion. ⋯ OS is a rare but serious complication of primary spine fusion surgery. Identifying the specific risk factors, symptoms, and potential complications related to OS is critical to aid in decreasing the significant morbidity associated with its development.

Familial forms of cavernous malformations (CMs) often occur as multiple lesions. Nevertheless, the presence of a single CM does not exclude the familiarity. The aim of this study is to establish which patients who undergo surgery for a single cerebral cavernous malformation (CCM), with no family history at initial diagnosis, should be investigated for familiarity through genetic testing and counseling. ⋯ Patients with CCM and no known family history at the time of the initial diagnosis who present specific features should be studied by genetic screening. The Ki67 MIB1 is a useful biomarker in favor of familial occurrence and may be studied in all patients with CMs to define the indication to the genetic tests.

Comparative effectiveness research has a vital role in health reform and policies. Specialty training is one of these provider-side variables, and surgeons performing the same procedure who were trained in different specialties may have different outcomes. The objective of this study was to investigate the impact of spine surgeon specialty (neurosurgery vs. orthopedic surgery) on early perioperative outcome measures of elective anterior/lateral lumbar interbody fusion (ALIF/LLIF) for degenerative disc diseases. ⋯ Our analysis found significant differences in early perioperative outcomes of patients undergoing ALIF/LLIF by neurosurgeons and orthopedic surgeons. These differences have significant clinical and cost implications for patients, physicians, program directors, payers, and health systems.
