A shorter door-to-puncture time is an independent predictor of good clinical outcomes in patients with acute ischemic stroke (AIS) who undergo mechanical thrombectomy (MT). We recently initiated a protocol for direct care from neurointerventionalists (NIs) in the emergency department (ED) rather than from non-NI neurologists for patients with AIS. Our aim was to investigate whether NIs, as the first point-of-care physicians for stroke in the ED, could shorten door-to-puncture time compared to non-NI neurologists. ⋯ Our study showed that NIs, as the first point-of-care stroke physicians in the ED, were associated with shorter door-to-puncture times. We suggest that NIs should be at the forefront of care for patients with AIS in the acute setting by performing triage and deciding on and performing MT.

We assessed the sequential magnetic resonance imaging changes of indirect neural decompression after minimally invasive lumbar lateral interbody fusion (LIF) combined with posterior percutaneous pedicle screw (PPS) fixation for degenerative spondylolisthesis (DS) according to the severity of preoperative lumbar spinal stenosis. ⋯ Sequential enlargement of the spinal canal was obtained by the thinning of the ligamentum flavum after LIF and PPS fixation in patients with DS with both mild and severe stenosis. The effect of indirect neural decompression was equivalent even in those with severe lumbar spinal stenosis.

To evaluate the impact of multidisciplinary intraoperative teams on surgical complications in patients undergoing sacral tumor resection. ⋯ Although patients managed with multidisciplinary teams had larger tumors and worse baseline health, 30-day complications were similar. This finding suggests that the use of multidisciplinary teams may help to mitigate surgical morbidity in those with high baseline risk.

Glioblastoma (GBM) is the most lethal primary tumor in the central nervous system. Ferroptosis is a type of programmed iron-dependent cell death. In the present study, we aimed to identify prognostic ferroptosis-related genes and their role in tumor immunity. ⋯ The ferroptosis suppressors CD44, HSPB1, and SLC40A1 were significantly associated with prognosis in GBM and correlated with immunosuppression (i.e., T-cell exhaustion and cytotoxic T-lymphocyte evasion). Acetaminophen might have an antitumor function in GBM by regulating CD44, HSPB1, and SLC40A1 to induce ferroptosis. Our results are expected to be of great significance in developing new immunotherapy strategies for GBM.

The lumbar spine displays its greatest mobility in ventral flexion, which is a potential risk factor for low back pain. The relative contribution of each segment to the complete flexion is denoted the spine rhythm, which is required to distinguish between normal and abnormal spinal profiles, and as well to calculate the spinal forces in musculoskeletal models. Nevertheless, different spine rhythms have been reported in literature and the effect of arm position has not been demonstrated. We therefore aimed to investigate the effects of different arm positions on spine rhythm during ventral flexion. ⋯ The lumbar spine displayed greater flexion in the middle and lower levels and its flexion rhythm remained unchanged at different arm positions. These results strike importance to explore for more reasons explaining the different lumbar flexion rhythms reported in literature.
