Updated Genome-wide Association Study of Intracranial Aneurysms by Genotype Correction and Imputation in Koreans.
Compared to European, Japanese, and Chinese populations, genetic studies on intracranial aneurysms (IAs) in Koreans are lacking. We conducted an updated genome-wide association study (GWAS) to more accurately identify candidate variations predicting IA by genotype correction and imputation than in the first Korean GWAS. ⋯ Our updated GWAS using high-throughput imputation approaches can be an informative milestone in understanding IA formation via susceptibility loci in this stage before large-scale genome-wide association meta-analysis.

The objective of the study was to compare the efficacy of halo-gravity traction (HGT) with subsequent surgical treatment in adolescent and adult patients with severe scoliosis by evaluating the radiographic outcomes and clinical complications. ⋯ HGT is an effective and safe method to correct spinal deformities and improve lung function, especially in adolescent patients with severe scoliosis. In addition, it can potentially reduce the risk of neurological complications and the level of osteotomy in posterior spinal instrumented fusion surgery.

The Subarachnoid Hemorrhage Early Brain Edema Score (SEBES) is a radiographic marker for early brain injury after aneurysmal subarachnoid hemorrhage (aSAH). We evaluated the role of the SEBES in performing decompressive craniectomy (DC) for poor-grade aSAH. ⋯ The SEBES provides good imaging support for preoperative and intraoperative intracranial pressure management in poor-grade aSAH, allowing for improved DC-related decision-making and better 180-day survival.

Low-grade gliomas are a broad category of tumors that can manifest at different stages of life. As a group, their prognosis has historically been considered to be favorable, and surgery is a mainstay of treatment. Advances in the molecular characterization of individual lesions has led to newer classification systems, a better understanding of the biological behavior of different neoplasms, and the identification of previously unrecognized entities. ⋯ Similarly, more precise methods of intraoperative tumor tissue analysis will aid surgical planning. Improved surgical outcomes propelled by novel surgical techniques and intraoperative adjuncts and emerging forms of medical treatment in the field of immunotherapy have enriched the management of these lesions. We review the contemporary management and innovations in the treatment of low-grade gliomas.

Low health literacy is prevalent and associated with suboptimal health outcomes. In neurosurgery, social determinants of health are increasingly recognized as factors underpinning outcomes, as well as access to and use of care. We conducted a scoping review to delineate the scope of existing literature regarding health literacy in the field and facilitate future research. ⋯ Studies examining health literacy in neurosurgery primarily focus on the topic indirectly, most often via written educational materials and recall after educational interventions. Increasing awareness of health literacy among neurosurgeons, assessing health literacy, and incorporating health literacy-informed counseling approaches are warranted to improve patient care.
