Genomic instability and aberrant tumor mutation burden are widely accepted hallmarks of cancer. Glioblastoma (GBM) is a common brain tumor in adults, and survival of patients with GBM is poor. This study aimed to investigate the prognostic value of genomic instability-derived genes in GBM. ⋯ The risk score constructed by 9 genomic instability-derived genes could reliably predict prognosis of GBM patients. The nomogram based on age and risk score also had a good prognostic predictive value.

Effect of teriparatide versus zoledronate on posterior lumbar interbody fusion in postmenopausal women with osteoporosis.
We evaluated the efficacy of teriparatide versus zoledronate on spinal fusion in osteoporotic patients after posterior lumbar interbody fusion (PLIF). ⋯ Among postmenopausal women with osteoporosis, teriparatide showed superior bone union at 6 months and greater BMD improvement at 12 months after PLIF compared with zoledronate administration, although both resulted in similar overall effects on spinal fusion.

Countersinking of deep brain stimulator lead anchoring devices reduces the risk of erosion through the scalp and improves cosmesis. This article describes a simple handheld stencil surgical instrument to assist in the countersinking process. It has 2 sides, each of which can be directly drilled through into the skull: one for making a full-thickness circular burr hole and the other for drilling a partial-thickness craniotomy to countersink the base ring of the anchoring device. This easy-to-use instrument speeds the surgery and ensures a tight contour around the base ring.

Hemangioblastomas are benign, often cystic tumors occurring most commonly in the cerebellum. We describe resection of cystic cerebellar hemangioblastomas using an endoscope-assisted technique. ⋯ Endoscope-assisted resection is a safe and effective technique for surgical resection of cystic hemangioblastoma.

To propose a new standardized technique for evaluating lumbar stability in degenerative lumbar spondylolisthesis using lumbar lateral flexion-extension radiographs with brackets and magnetic resonance facet fluid. ⋯ Lumbar lateral flexion-extension radiographs with brackets can standardize the operation process and provide sufficient hyperflexion and hyperextension images. The width of the facet fluid and FFI are significant factors in the evaluation of lumbar stability in patients with lumbar spondylolisthesis.
