The objective of the study was to explore the significance of the distribution of lumbar facet joint effusion (unilateral or bilateral) and the amount of joint effusion in the process of lumbar degeneration. ⋯ A bilateral effusion signal is more likely to indicate lumbar instability than a unilateral effusion signal. The distribution width and area of effusion were positively correlated with lumbar stability and LSA.

The aim of this study was to evaluate the course of occluded distal vessels before mechanical thrombectomy (MT) for acute large vessel occlusion (LVO) with non-contrast magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). The variable flip-angle three-dimensional turbo spin-echo (VRFA-3D-TSE) method was used to evaluate the course of occluded distal vessels quickly and clearly in acute LVO cases before MT. ⋯ In patients with acute LVO, VRFA-3D-TSE MRI enabled rapid and good depiction of the course of occluded distal vessels before MT without the use of contrast medium.

We sought to identify predictors of failed triceps motor branch transfer to the anterior division of the axillary nerve (AN) for shoulder abduction reconstruction after a brachial plexus injury (BPI). ⋯ Use of triceps motor branch associated with fibrillations or weakness resulted in statistically poorer outcomes compared to the use of a normal triceps motor branch in the restoration of anterior AN function after nerve transfer.

The optimal frequency of surveillance brain magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) in long-term survivors with brain metastases after stereotactic radiosurgery (SRS) is unknown. Our aim was to identify the optimal frequency of surveillance imaging in long-term survivors with brain metastases after SRS. ⋯ Based on cost-benefit, a 4-month MRI brain schedule should be considered in patients with metastatic disease to the brain treated definitively or postoperatively with SRS without evidence of CNS recurrence at 1 year.

To analyze surgical outcomes and tumor characteristics of 49 patients with thyrotropin-secreting pituitary adenoma, a rare functional pituitary adenoma subtype with challenging surgery, who underwent endoscopic endonasal transsphenoidal surgery. ⋯ Endoscopic endonasal transsphenoidal surgery is the first-line treatment in thyrotropin-secreting pituitary adenoma and should be performed in a tertiary center. Gross total resection is the goal, and early diagnosis is essential for surgical success.
