In this study, we aimed to analyze the clinical outcomes of percutaneous transforaminal endoscopic debridement and drainage (PTEDD) with accurate pathogen detection for patients with infectious spondylitis of the thoracolumbar and lumbar spines. ⋯ For patients with infectious spondylitis of the thoracolumbar and lumbar spine, PTEDD is an effective and safe treatment. Next-generation DNA sequencing is a much more sensitive method for detecting the responsible organisms.

This was a retrospective observational study. ⋯ Our study suggests that preoperative HU values at UIV may affect the development of PJF for female ASD patients. HU evaluation by preoperative computed tomography may help reduce the incidence of PJF.

Vertebral compression fractures are the most common fragility fractures affecting osteoporotic patients. This study evaluated volume trends and outcomes across specialties performing cement augmentation procedures. ⋯ Kyphoplasties and vertebroplasties are increasingly performed by nonsurgeon specialists. Although early reoperation rates are higher for nonsurgeon specialists, 5-year and overall reoperation rates were similar. Differing complication rates may relate to patient selection rather than operative technique and can be investigated with future studies.

During spine surgery, surgeons are exposed to vibrations from surgical drills. Increased exposure to vibration can result in neurologic, vascular, and musculoskeletal impairments. To reduce these risks, occupational health standards have been implemented to limit exposure levels. The purpose of this study was to quantify human exposure to hand-arm vibration from a surgical drill during a simulation of a common spine procedure. ⋯ The results demonstrate that a common surgical drill transmits hand-arm vibration levels approaching the exposure action value and exposure limit value over short periods of use. Further investigation is needed to determine the total vibration exposure over an entire workday, specifically in surgeons who perform multiple surgeries within a single day.

Deep brain stimulation (DBS) is a pivotal surgical treatment for movement disorders. However, men and women have had differing opinions and referral experiences related to DBS, leading us to assess whether a gender disparity exists in the interval from a movement disorder diagnosis to DBS usage. ⋯ Our study detected no gender differences in the DBS implantation timeline but alluded to a gender-specific discrepancy in DBS referral for ET. The female patients did not have a shorter duration from the ET diagnosis to DBS, despite experiencing significantly greater baseline ET severity compared with their male counterparts. Furthermore, the women with ET more often used Medicaid insurance and were without minority representation.
