Despite growing interest in the endoscopic endonasal approach (EEA) to the medial orbital apex (OA), a comprehensive description of the multilayer topology lying at the intersection of the regional compartments is missing. ⋯ Understanding cranial landmarks and the folds of the layers covering the orbito-cavernous-pterygopalatine interface can facilitate tailoring an EEA to the medial orbital space and avoid unnecessary exposure of sensitive anatomy in the vicinity.

Thoracolumbar disc herniation (TLDH) is a rare disorder with unique characteristics that can result in undesirable surgical outcomes after traditional discectomy. In view of the widespread use of transforaminal endoscopic discectomy for lower lumbar disc herniation, we investigated treatment of TLDH by this procedure. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the clinical efficacy of transforaminal endoscopic discectomy for treating TLDH and share our technical experience. ⋯ Operation time, blood loss, postoperative hospital stay, and surgical outcomes were favorable. Transforaminal endoscopic discectomy is an ideal surgical procedure for treating TLDH.

This study aimed to compare the postoperative alignment of static and expandable cages in lateral single-position (LSP) for indirect decompression in lateral lumbar interbody fusion (LLIF). ⋯ In LSP-LLIF without facet joint resection or other posterior techniques, static and expandable cages showed comparable effectiveness in achieving increased DH, SL, FA, and indirect decompression.

Percutaneous endoscopic interlaminar discectomy (PEID) has been widely used in minimally invasive treatment of lumbar disc herniation (LDH) but is difficult to perform because of the narrow interlaminar window and painful for the patient. Therefore, further research is needed to find a safe and effective method to facilitate the development of PEID. ⋯ PEID via a laminotomy technique with stepwise local anesthesia is safe and effective for L4-5 and L5-S1 LDH.

To provide a precise description of the morphology and morphometry of the hypoglossal canal (HC) and its relationship with surrounding structures by using the epoxy sheet plastination technique. ⋯ Knowledge of the detailed anatomy of the HC can be helpful in avoiding surgical complications when performing surgery for lesions and the occipital condylar screw placement in this complex area.
