The benefit of postoperative adjuvant therapy for survival of oligodendrocyte glioma remains unclear. In this study, we compared the effect of chemoradiation therapy (CRT) and chemotherapy (CT) alone in patients who underwent resection. We aim to identify which adjuvant therapy provides more survival benefits. ⋯ In patients with resected oligodendroglioma, adjuvant CT is associated with better survival compared to adjuvant CRT. The benefit was more significant in patients who were younger and older, male and female, white race, frontal lobe and parietal lobe tumor site, smaller tumor size (≤4 cm), and with GTR.

Predicting meningioma consistency with preoperative imaging is critical for surgery planning. Preoperative T1 and T2-weighted and fluid attenuated inversion recovery magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) findings of supratentorial meningioma tumors were studied and compared with intraoperative supratentorial meningioma tumor consistency based on the Cavitron ultrasound surgical aspirator (CUSA) and ZADA grading scales in this cohort to predict the tumor consistency before surgery. ⋯ Our findings suggest that higher tumor/cerebellar peduncle T2-weighted intensity and TCFI ratios correlate with softer tumors, while higher TCT1I ratios reveal firmer tumors. These data can assist the surgeon predict the supratentorial meningioma consistency before surgery.

Disordered swallowing, or dysphagia, is the most common complication after anterior cervical spine (ACS) surgery. Many operative factors are associated with development of dysphagia. The aim of this study was to explore how number of levels instrumented, specific levels fused, and plate morphology affect chronic dysphagia after ACS surgery. ⋯ In this series of patients with chronic dysphagia following ACS surgery, the severity of dysphagia as measured by the EAT-10 was not affected by upper instrumented vertebrae, number of levels fused, or plate morphology.

Epithelioid hemangioma is a rare vascular mesenchymal tumor with a paucity of reports of cranial involvement. In particular, guidance on treatment for lateral skull base lesions is lacking, despite this being a highly technically challenging location. Nuances in the management decisions for this tumor type are discussed. ⋯ The anatomy is highlighted in labeled pictures of the approach and dissection, and surgical video is presented for key surgical steps. Preoperative and postoperative imaging is analyzed. A desirable clinical outcome was obtained.

Cranioplasty with synthetic implant can be performed to restore function and form of the skull after resection of malignancy infiltrating the bone. The aim of this study was to examine the rate of implant failure and tumor recurrence in patients undergoing nonautologous cranioplasty and tumor resection. ⋯ Cranioplasty surgery with synthetic implants carries a relatively high risk of failure, regardless of type of cranioplasty material used. Skin closure with staples may be beneficial in these patients.
