Outcomes after endovascular treatment of direct carotid cavernous fistulas: Systematic review and meta-analysis.
Direct carotid cavernous fistulas (dCCF) involve pathologic shunting from the internal carotid artery into the cavernous sinus. We systematically reviewed the methods and outcomes of endovascular therapy for dCCF. ⋯ Endovascular therapy for dCCF is associated with high occlusion and low complication rates. Recurrence is not uncommon, highlighting the need for close follow-up.

Numerous scientists and researchers have been developing advanced procedures and methods for diagnosing the kind and phase of a human tumor. Brain tumors, which are neoplastic and abnormal developments of brain cells, are one of the most prominent causes of death. Brain tumors, also known as lesions or neoplasia, may be roughly classified as either primary or metastatic. Primary brain tumors arise from brain tissue and its surrounding environment. The recognition of brain tumors using magnetic resonance images via a deep learning technique such as convolutional neural network (CNN) has garnered significant academic interest over the last few decades. ⋯ In conclusion, we suggest that one of the next paths of study will be the incorporation of other databases to advance CNN-based brain tumor identification from magnetic resonance images. No drug dosages are applied in this work.

Non-galenic pial arteriovenous fistulas (NGPAVFs) are rare cerebrovascular pathologies accounting for only 1.6%-4.8% of all brain vascular malformations. We performed a comprehensive review of NGPAVF cases reported in the literature to further characterize their clinical patterns of presentation, angiographic features, management, clinical outcomes, and complications. ⋯ To our knowledge, we report the largest literature review describing the clinical course and characteristics of NGPAVFs. All treatment approaches resulted in favorable obliteration rates and overall patient outcomes.

Intracranial solitary fibrous tumor (SFT) is characterized by aggressive local behavior and high post-resection recurrence rates. It is difficult to distinguish between SFT and meningiomas, which are typically benign. The goal of this study was to systematically review radiological features that differentiate meningioma and SFT. ⋯ Clinicians can differentiate SFT from meningiomas on preoperative imaging by looking for higher apparent diffusion coefficient, lack of dural tail/narrow-based dural attachment, less peritumoral brain edema, and vascular flow voids on neuroimaging, in addition to younger age at diagnosis. Distinguishing between angiomatous meningioma and SFT is much more challenging, as both are highly vascular pathologies. Tumor volume has limited utility in differentiating between SFT and various grades/subtypes of meningioma.

The first case of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) was reported in December 2019 in Wuhan, China. This study uses a bibliometric analysis of the top 100 most cited neurosurgical COVID-19-related articles to date to identify and determine their characteristics. ⋯ This analysis facilitated in making evidence-based clinical decisions and drawing the attention of researchers to identify and contribute to the increasing scientific work by identifying the top 100 most cited neurosurgical COVID-19-related articles published.
