Minimally Invasive Spine Surgery (MISS) is a growing alternative to Open Spine Surgery (OSS). The preservation of musculature and minimization of iatrogenic injury is hypothesized to decrease the need for reoperation by preserving normal anatomy. Our objective is to compare the relative long-term reoperation rates after MISS and OSS for the treatment of degenerative disease of the lumbar spine. ⋯ In the setting of degenerative lumbar spine disease, MISS has the potential to reduce the long-term need for reoperation when compared with OSS.

This study was conducted with the aim to estimate long-term tumor control and hearing preservation rates in patients with neurofibromatosis 2 (NF2)-related vestibular schwannoma (VS), document retreatment success rate, and assess the associated predictive factors. ⋯ This is the largest radiosurgical series of NF2-associated VS reported to date. GKRS provides a high rate of long-term local tumor control with a low risk of neurologic deprivation for patients with these tumors. The need for retreatment with GKRS, although low, is associated with good tumor control and lesser complications.

Laminoplasty using mini-plates is one of the most common surgical techniques in surgery for intraspinal pathologies. However, limited are present in the literature. The aim of this study was to determine its long-term clinical and radiologic outcome, specifically using an L-shaped mini-plate. ⋯ Laminoplasty using L-shape Leibinger mini-plates had an 89.3% fusion rate, and no displacement of the re-attached laminae was observed. We think it is a safe and feasible option in surgeries for intraspinal pathologies.

Technical challenges in endovascular treatment of ruptured aneurysm in a patient with BMI > 100.
Morbid obesity can pose unique challenges in the endovascular treatment of cerebrovascular diseases, particularly in the management of ruptured aneurysms. ⋯ This technical report and literature review can serve as a guide for physicians treating morbidly obese patients with cerebrovascular diseases. Utilization of advanced technology and innovative approaches can aid in overcoming the challenges posed by obesity and improving patient outcomes.

Feasibility of Intra-operative VEP Monitoring by cortical strip electrodes in patients during brain surgery: a preliminary study.
The role of visual evoked potentials (VEPs) monitoring during neurosurgical procedure in patient remains unclear. The purpose of our study was to determine the feasibility of intraoperative VEP recording using a strip cortical electrode during surgical resection of intracranial lesions. ⋯ We have reported for the first time in the literature that VEP monitoring during a neurosurgical procedure is feasible via a cortical strip located on the occipital surface. The technique demonstrated greater stability and a larger amplitude compared with recordings with scalp electrodes, facilitating identification of any changes. Studies with more patients are needed to assess the clinical reliability of the technique.
