Patients with Hunt-Hess (HH)5 aneurysmal subarachnoid hemorrhage (SAH) have high mortality rates. Despite an initial moribund exam, a subset of patients progress to favorable outcomes. ⋯ Delayed reassessment of HH grade 48 hours postadmission is a predictor of mortality, suggesting reassessment at 48 hours in high grade SAH leads to better prognostication.

Early decompressive surgery within 24 hours improves the functional outcome of patients with traumatic spinal cord injury; however, little is known about the effect of early surgery for spontaneous spinal epidural hematoma (SSEH). In this study, we aimed to investigate the effectiveness of ultraearly hematoma evacuation (<12 hours) for SSEH. ⋯ Ultraearly surgery within 12 hours for SSEH was associated with better functional outcomes.

The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effect of position on regional kyphosis angle (RKA) in patients with kyphosis secondary to symptomatic old osteoporotic thoracolumbar fracture (so-OTLF). ⋯ The reductive effect of the intraoperative prone position was greater in patients with moderate to severe kyphosis deformities. RKA in the preoperative prone position was almost the same as the RKA in the intraoperative prone position. Therefore, assessing preoperative full-length spine computed tomography in the prone position helped formulate the plan for corrective surgery in patients with kyphosis secondary to so-OTLF.

Bibliometrics assessing academic productivity plays a significant role in neurosurgeons' career advancement. This study aimed to evaluate the influence of multiple author profiles on Scopus on neurosurgeon author-level metrics (h-index, document number, citation number). ⋯ U.S. academic neurosurgeons with multiple existing profiles on Scopus experience a 17.3% loss in h-index, a 16.2% loss in document number, and a 14.1% loss in citations, heavily undercounting their perceived academic productivity.

This finite element analysis aimed to investigate the effects of surgical procedures for cervical spine injury. ⋯ Cervical stabilization was preserved by the APF model. Regarding range of motion, the PF model had an advantage compared with the AF model except for flexion. An understanding of biomechanics provides useful information for the clinician.
