Peripheral nerve surgery in Serbia has become the most fruitful subsection of national neurosurgery, with international recognition of Serbian surgeons and institutions. We chronicle landmark events in the history of the field in Serbia, highlighting the development of the field over time and outlining future prospects. This manuscript provides an example of the development of peripheral nerve surgery and associated training in a challenging social, political, and economic context and may guide the development of peripheral nerve surgery care and training in other settings.

Intraoperative study of blood flow in the brain vessels is among the most critical topics of modern neurosurgery. One of the promising methods for intraoperative monitoring of blood flow is laser speckle contrast imaging (LSCI). This systematic review aims to analyze the experience of using intraoperative LSCI in neurosurgical interventions. ⋯ LSCI is a promising intraoperative method for intraoperative cerebral blood flow assessing. This method offers several advantages over other modalities. The experience of use is limited to a small number of case series. Further investigation of the method and its implementation in clinical practice is needed.

Keshin-Beck disease (KBD) is a particular type of osteoarthritis that affects many joints. However, the deformity of atlantoaxial joint has been rarely reported in KBD, and therefore its clinical and radiograph features have not been identified. ⋯ The atlantoaxial level could be affected by KBD, which may lead to typical abnormalities and cause AAD. A C1 laminectomy with an C1-C2 interarticular fusion or occipital-cervical fusion is recommended for the patient with severe stenosis.

Surgical treatment of insufficiently embolized (coiled) or recurrent giant aneurysms has not been well established in the literature. The aim of this study is to bring up the surgical difficulties of these rare aneurysms and to offer solutions. ⋯ Surgical clipping is a safe and effective procedure for the treatment of insufficiently embolized or recurrent giant aneurysms after coiling. If possible, the coils should not be removed. However, if safe clipping is not possible due to the coils, the removal of the coils should not be avoided.

Aneurysms located on the middle cerebral artery (MCA) range from 22% to 31.5% in prevalence of all aneurysms in the anterior cerebral circulation. This bibliometric analysis summarizes the most cited articles on MCA aneurysms and highlights the landmark publications that contributed to evidence-based practice. ⋯ The bibliometric analysis provides a quantitative overview of how medical literature and interventions are analyzed in academic medicine. In the present study, we evaluated the global trends in research regarding MCA aneurysms by finding the top 100 most cited articles.
