The relationship between marital status and overall survival (OS) in adult patients with craniopharyngioma has not been explored in depth. We aimed to elucidate the impact of marital status on the prognosis of craniopharyngioma patients excluding bias from baseline demographics and treatment. ⋯ Marital status is an independent prognostic factor predicting OS for middle-aged patients with craniopharyngioma. Providing additional social and psychological support for single and divorced/separated patients may improve outcomes for this vulnerable population.

Non-vascularized multilayer fascial closure technique (NMFCT) can be used instead of nasoseptal flap reconstruction for dural repair in endoscopic transnasal surgery (ETS); however, due to the lack of blood supply, its long-term durability and possible limitations need to be clarified. ⋯ NMFCT is a reasonable alternative with long-term durability, though vascularized flap may be a better choice for cases in which vascularity of the surrounding tissues is significantly impaired due to interventions including multiple radiotherapies.

Two general pathways exist for spine surgery training in the United States: orthopedic surgery and neurological surgery. Previous studies have not quantified the impact of fellowship training when comparing case volumes between these 2 training pathways. This study compares reported spine surgery case volume upon graduation from orthopedic surgery and neurological surgery training. ⋯ Neurological surgery training affords a greater volume of adult spine surgery cases, but orthopedic surgery affords more pediatric spine surgery cases. Identification of relative strengths and weaknesses can help facilitate multidisciplinary training experiences in spine surgery.

Although spinal surgery can offer pain relief and functional improvements in daily life, it is often associated with various perioperative complications. The incidence of cardiac complications associated with spinal surgery is relatively low. We evaluated frequency and causes for bradycardia incidents in posterior thorocolumbar spinal surgeries. ⋯ The current study examines the occurrence of unexpected bradycardia events associated with thoracolumbar spinal surgery during surgical handling of the dura mater. Awareness of such incidents among surgeons and anesthesiologists can help prevent catastrophic outcomes caused by adverse cardiac events.

Hemorrhage following glioma resection usually happens in tissues that were surgically manipulated. Remote bleeding is a rare and serious complication that is still poorly understood. Distant wounded glioma syndrome is a special type of this complication, where bleeding happens in a glioma lesion that was not surgically manipulated. ⋯ Remote bleeding, including distant wounded glioma syndrome, is a rare complication that should be considered in cases of postoperative deterioration, especially in cases of symptoms not congruent with the operated site.
