Spetzler-Martin (SM) grade III arteriovenous malformations (AVMs) show angioarchitecture heterogeneity and lack a clearly defined treatment strategy. This study aims to evaluate outcomes after treatment of SM grade III AVMs with Gamma Knife radiosurgery (GKRS). ⋯ GKRS is a safe and effective treatment for SM grade III AVMs, particularly subtype IIIA (S1E1V1). AVM volume is the key predictor of post-GKRS obliteration.

Consensus guidelines for antibiotic prophylaxis in endoscopic endonasal surgery (EES) have not been developed. The study objective was to define the microbiologic and clinical characteristics of post-EES central nervous system (CNS) infections. ⋯ CNS infection after EES is rare and causative pathogens vary. Further studies are needed to identify the impact of MRSA nares screening on antimicrobial prophylaxis before EES.

Anterior cervical discectomy and fusion (ACDF) is a commonly performed procedure for degenerative cervical spine disease. Rare complications of ACDF surgery include hardware failure, in the form of screw loosening and migration, or rod breakage. We present a case in which we removed a migrated screw lodged in the esophagus from a patient with a failed anterior cervical fusion. ⋯ Failure of an ACDF carries a risk of screw migration, which may be asymptomatic even if the screw is lodged in the esophagus. Additional considerations are required with potential violations of the adjacent viscera.

Cranioplasty after craniectomy can result in high rates of postoperative complications. Although determinants of postoperative outcomes have been identified, a prediction model for predicting cranioplasty implant survival does not exist. Thus, we sought to develop a prediction model for cranioplasty implant survival after craniectomy. ⋯ We have developed the first prediction model for cranioplasty implant survival after craniectomy. The findings from our study require external validation and deserve further exploration in future studies.

Glioblastoma (GBM) is the most common brain tumor in the United States, with an annual incidence rate of 3.21 per 100,000. It is the most aggressive type of diffuse glioma and has a median survival of months after treatment. This study aims to assess the accuracy of different novel deep learning models trained on a set of simple clinical, demographic, and surgical variables to assist in clinical practice, even in areas with constrained health care infrastructure. ⋯ Novel deep learning algorithms can better predict GBM prognosis than do baseline methods and can lead to more personalized patient care regardless of extensive electronic health record availability.
