Observational Study
The prognostic impact of Progesteron-receptor expression in surgical intracranial meningioma on performance status and quality of life. A single-center observational study.
The relationship between meningiomas and gonadal steroid hormones has been the subject of debate, and there is limited understanding of the connection between patient, tumor characteristics, and progesterone receptor (PGR) status. ⋯ The study found that PGR + meningioma patients tend to have better postoperative recovery and earlier clinical debut without any association with age prevalence or grading.

Acute kidney injury (AKI) is a complication often observed in critically ill patients, indicating a worsening prognosis. However, factors predicting AKI in subarachnoid hemorrhage (SAH) patients are unclear. This study aims to elucidate the predictors of AKI occurrence. ⋯ AKI occurred in 16.3% of the patients with SAH. Patients who developed AKI had significantly higher uric acid levels. SAH with high uric acid levels warrants attention for AKI.

To investigate the biomechanical properties of pedicle screw reinsertion along the same trajectory in a previously validated synthetic bone model. ⋯ Despite a significant decrease in insertion torque, there is no significant loss of pedicle screw performance when a screw is removed and reinserted along the same trajectory.

The use of biomodels in the laboratory for studying and training cervical laminoplasty has not yet been reported. We propose the use of a cervical spine biomodel for surgical laminoplasty training. ⋯ Printing each piece took 12 hours. During the surgical procedure, there was sufficient support from the biomodels to keep them immobilized. Using the drill was feasible; however continuous irrigation was mandatory to prevent plastic material overheating. The raw material made the biomodel CT study possible. The vertebral canal dimensions increased 24.80% (0.62 cm2) in area and 24.88% (3.12 mm) in anteroposterior diameter CONCLUSIONS: The cervical spine biomodels can be used for laminoplasty training, even by using thermosensitive material such as PLA. The use of continuous irrigation is essential while drilling.

Over the last decade, simulation models have been increasingly applied as an adjunct for surgical training in neurosurgery. We aim through a practical course at a national neurosurgical conference to evaluate 3D non-cadaveric simulation models along with augmented reality for learning and practicing the pterional craniotomy approach among a wide variety of participants including medical students, neurosurgery residents, and attending neurosurgeons. ⋯ Simulation model combining augmented reality with physical simulation for hybrid experience can be a promising and valuable tool especially for medical students or early career neurosurgical residents.
