Posterior lumbar interbody fusion (PLIF) with cortical bone trajectory (CBT) screw fixation (CBT-PLIF) shows potential for reducing adjacent segmental disease. Previously, our investigations revealed a relatively lower fusion rate with the use of carbon fiber-reinforced polyetheretherketone (CP) cages in CBT-PLIF compared with traditional pedicle screw fixation (PS-PLIF) using CP cages. This study aims to evaluate whether the implementation of titanium-coated polyetheretherketone (TP) cages can enhance fusion outcomes in CBT-PLIF. ⋯ Examination of temporal changes in fusion rates reveals that only the TP group achieved a peak fusion rate 1 year postoperatively. This implies that TP cages may enhance the fusion process even after CBT-PLIF. Nevertheless, the definitive efficacy of TP cages for CBT-PLIF remains uncertain in the context of overall fusion rates.

The correlation between hyperdense basilar artery sign (HDBAS) and outcome after acute basilar artery occlusion (ABAO) is debated. Our objective was to determine the usefulness of HDBAS in predicting the outcomes of patients with ABAO after endovascular treatment (EVT), intravenous thrombolysis (IVT), and best medical treatment (BMT). ⋯ HDBAS may not be a reliable predictor of outcomes for patients with ABAO, regardless of whether they received EVT, IVT, or BMT.

Meningiomas, the most prevalent benign intracranial neoplasms, have been studied extensively for many years, but significant problems remain. To date, there is a scarcity of detailed studies elucidating the hotspots and future directions of meningiomas research. ⋯ This study aimed to provide a comprehensive analysis of the research landscape and to identify potential research directions. Our findings disclose productive individuals and institutions. The current research focuses on the molecular pathology of meningiomas, improvements in techniques, and advances in diagnosis by magnetic resonance imaging. In particular, the improvements in molecular pathology might direct future research directions.

We sought to evaluate the clinical impact of lordosis orientation (LO) on proximal junctional kyphosis (PJK) development in adult spinal deformity surgery. ⋯ LO significantly increases the risk of PJK development in ASD surgery. Multivariate analysis revealed that smaller postoperative PI-LL and greater UIVFA were significant risk factors for PJK. Surgeons should avoid undercorrection and overcorrection to prevent PJK development.

The number of government institutes offering affordable super specialty and tertiary healthcare in India has traditionally not been able to keep pace with the growth in population, most of whom are too poor to be able to afford private healthcare services. To meet this mandate, 6 new institutes built on the template of the premier institute of the country-the All India Institute of Medical Sciences, New Delhi-were founded and began operations in 2012. Using the progress of our department as an example, the aim of this report is to outline the principles that were followed to set up the department of neurosurgery. ⋯ We report the unique experiences of one department that could be useful as a template and as guidelines for the establishment process of a new department.
