The Prevalence of Seizures in Brain Metastasis Patients on Anticonvulsant Prophylaxis: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis.
Brain metastasis (BM) prognosis is incredibly poor and is often associated with considerable morbidity. Seizures are commonly present in these patients, and their biopsychosocial impact can be dangerous. The use of antiepileptic drugs (AEDs) as primary prophylaxis remains controversial. This systematic review and meta-analysis aim to evaluate the efficacy of AED prophylaxis in patients with BM. ⋯ There was no significant difference in the odds of seizure development in control groups compared to patients receiving prophylactic antiepileptic therapy. As patients with BM present with heterogeneity in tumor characteristics and receive various treatment modalities, future research is needed to identify groups that may benefit more significantly from AED prophylaxis.

Clinical Considerations and Outcomes for Spine Surgery Patients with a History of Transplant: A Systematic Scoping Review.
The objective of this study was to investigate the perioperative management and outcomes of patients with a prior history of successful transplantation undergoing spine surgery. ⋯ This is the first systematic scoping review examining the population of transplant patients with subsequent unrelated spine surgery. There is significant heterogeneity in the outcomes of post-transplant spine surgery patients. Given the inherent complexity of managing this group and elevated mortality and complications compared to the general spine surgery population, further investigation into their clinical care is warranted.

Chronic hydrocephalus in adults (CHiA) includes all nonacute forms of hydrocephalus occurring in adulthood. It covers a spectrum of disorders. Some of these have relatively agreed on definitions, while others are less well characterized. The existing medical classification systems lack adequate structure and are neither clinically oriented nor easy to use, which severely hampers research and clinical care efforts. ⋯ An evidence-based new clinical classification for CHiA is suggested. Our review identified gaps in knowledge and areas for further research.

Since tethered cord syndrome (TCS) may lead to neurologic and motor dysfunction, surgeries often are applied to relieve the symptoms. The aim of the research was to explore the current global research trends of TCS surgery. ⋯ This study will help researchers to identify the mainstream research directions and the latest hotspots in the field of TCS surgery and provide a reference for further research.

The advantages of 4-rod construct over the 2-rod techniques in Adult spinal deformity patients who underwent pedicle subtraction osteotomy: a multicenter retrospective comparative study.
In this retrospective study we compared clinicoradiologic outcomes and complication profiles of the traditional 2-rod construct versus the 4-rod construct in patients with adult spinal deformity (ASD) who underwent pedicle subtraction osteotomy (PSO). ⋯ Our results showed that the 4-rod construct was associated with statistically lower rates of rod fracture and pedicular screw loosening at the osteotomy level, higher degree of LL correction and improved PT and SVA than the 2-rod technique. The 4-rod construct was also associated with improved quality of life and Oswestry Disability Index and lower complication profiles.
