Sudden hearing loss as an initial symptom of vestibular schwannoma.
This study aims to determine the prevalence of vestibular schwannoma (VS) among patients presenting with sudden hearing loss (SHL) and to characterize the clinical features of individuals diagnosed with both VS and SHL. ⋯ VS is a rare etiology of SHL, accounting for slightly over 2% of cases. Its symptomatology, severity, and audiometric patterns do not significantly differ from SHL caused by other factors. Tumor size does not correlate with hearing characteristics. Treatment modalities resemble those for other SHL cases, and hearing improvement does not obviate the necessity for follow-up magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) scans.

Moyamoya disease (MMD) is a rare cerebrovascular disease characterized by progressive stenosis of the supraclinoid internal carotid artery. As a result of chronically decreased brain perfusion, eloquent areas of the brain become hypoperfused, leading to cognitive changes in patients. Repeated infarcts and bleeds produce clinically apparent neurologic deficits. ⋯ After revascularization, significant improvement occurred in functional and neuropsychological status. This result was also shown radiologically as evidenced by improvement in MRI perfusion and cerebral angiography.

En bloc resection remains the cornerstone treatment for malignant bone tumors affecting the spine. The thoracic spine poses unique challenges because of the proximity of crucial structures. This study assesses outcomes of patients who underwent en bloc spondylectomy for malignant bone tumors at the thoracic level. ⋯ Managing malignant thoracic bone tumors poses significant challenges. This study underscores the criticality of achieving adequate margins, particularly after previous intralesional approaches.

Spontaneous spinal arthrodesis (SSA) is a phenomenon of spontaneous fusion, and SSA is not rare in posttraumatic thoracolumbar kyphosis (PTK). However, few reports have focused on SSA in patients with PTK. The objective of this study was to investigate the prevalence, features, and predictive factors of SSA in patients with PTK. ⋯ SSA in PTK was common, and the SSA sign presented in various patterns, which might have implications for surgical decisions. AWHL was the independent predictor for SSA.

This study aimed to explore the clinical efficacy of metagenomic next-generation sequencing (mNGS) in diagnosing and treating suspected spinal infectious diseases. ⋯ mNGS demonstrated significantly higher detection rates for bacterial, fungal, viral, and mixed infections in cases of suspected spinal infectious diseases. The clinical implementation of mNGS could further enhance the efficiency of diagnosing and treating suspected spinal infectious diseases.
