Middle Cerebral Artery Bifurcation Aneurysm (MbifA) is associated with a high risk of rupture and poor overall prognosis in patients once it ruptures. Morphological, geometric, and hemodynamic parameters have been identified as factors contributing to the rupture of intracranial aneurysms. However, there are no studies that combine these 3 types of parameters to specifically target MbifA rupture. ⋯ Height, AR, DNR, EI, UI, NSI, WSS, and NWSS may be correlated with MbifA rupture, but only NWSS was an independent risk factor. A lower NWSS was associated with a higher risk of MbifA rupture. No significant differences were observed in the angle parameters, including the Inflow Angle, between ruptured and unruptured MbifAs. OSI was significantly increased at the dome of the aneurysm but the mean OSI was not found to be associated with MbifA rupture.

Ependymoma is a central nervous system (CNS) tumor that arises from the ependymal cells of the brain's ventricles and spinal cord. The histopathology of ependymomas is indistinguishable regardless of the site of origin, and the prognosis varies. Recent studies have revealed that the development site and prognosis reflect the genetic background. In this study, we used genome-wide DNA methylation array analysis to investigate the epigenetic background of ependymomas from different locations treated at our hospital. ⋯ Although adding DNA methylation classification to conventional diagnostic methods may be helpful, the diagnosis in some cases remains undetermined. This may affect decision-making regarding treatment strategies and follow-up. Further investigations are required to improve the diagnostic accuracy of these tumors.

Intracranial hemorrhage (ICH) is a severe condition that requires rapid diagnosis and treatment. Automated methods for calculating ICH volumes can reduce human error and improve clinical decisioPlease provide professional degrees (e.g., PhD, MD) for the corresponding author.n-making. A novel automated method has been developed that is comparable to the ABC/2 method in terms of speed and accuracy while providing more accurate volumetric data. ⋯ The study introduces a novel automated algorithm for calculating the volumes of various ICHs (EDH, and SDH) within CT scans. The algorithm showed excellent agreement with manual calculations and outperformed the commonly used ABC/2 method, which tends to overestimate ICH volume. The automated algorithm offers a more accurate, efficient, and time-saving approach to quantifying ICH, EDH, and SDH volumes, making it a valuable tool for clinical evaluation and decision-making.

Spine surgeons are often unaware of drivers of cost variation for anterior cervical discectomy and fusion (ACDF). We used time-driven activity-based costing to assess the relationship between body mass index (BMI), total cost, and operating room (OR) times for ACDFs. ⋯ Time-driven activity-based costing is a feasible and scalable methodology for understanding the true intraoperative costs of ACDF. Although higher BMI was not associated with increased total cost, it was associated with increased preparatory time in the OR.

Despite the well-known neurosurgical workforce deficit in Sub-Saharan Africa, there remains a low number of neurosurgical training programs in Nigeria. This study sought to reassess the current status of specialist neurosurgical training in the country. ⋯ Despite the high number of neurosurgery training centers in Nigeria, compared to other West African countries, the programs are still limited in number and capacity. Although this study shows apparent trainee satisfaction with the training process and contents, multiple challenges exist. Efforts at improving training capacity should focus on continuing the development and expansion of current programs, commencing subspecialty training, driving health insurance to improve funding, and increasing available infrastructure for training.
