Traumatic brain injury (TBI) is a major cause of physical disabilities worldwide. Herein, we aimed to investigate the factors contributing to post-discharge recovery in patients who were discharged with an unfavorable outcome. ⋯ This study found that the majority of patients discharged with an unfavorable functional status were able to achieve a favorable outcome within 6 months. The novel post-discharge recovery in TBI patients might be a useful tool for illuminating the factors associated with a significant improvement after discharge.

There has been limited investigation into how social determinants of health impact treatment outcomes in patients with trigeminal neuralgia (TN). We aimed to investigate how social determinants of health may alter the course of clinical care for patients with TN. ⋯ This study found that older and female patients with TN had a longer time from symptom onset to specialist referral. Based on these data, there is no association between race, SES, and insurance status with time-to-referral or time-to-treatment in patients with TN.

Malnutrition frequently is associated with increased complications and worse outcomes after surgery. The purpose of this study was to determine whether malnutrition status determined using the Geriatric Nutritional Risk Index (GNRI) can serve as an independent risk factor for complications in patients undergoing anterior cervical discectomy and fusion (ACDF). ⋯ In elderly patients after ACDF, malnutrition determined using GNRI is an independent risk factor for 30-day complications, readmissions, prolonged hospital length of stay, and nonhome discharge.

Hydrocephalus, a major complication in tuberculous meningitis (TBM) patients, often necessitates treatment via ventriculoperitoneal shunt (VPS). However, post-VPS, some patients develop a complication called contralateral isolated lateral ventricle (CILV), leading to persistent hydrocephalus symptoms. This study aims to evaluate cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) parameters in predicting CILV occurrence post-VPS in adult TBM patients. ⋯ The study identified elevated ADA levels and decreased glucose levels in CSF as potential risk factors for CILV development in adult TBM patients post-VPS. These findings suggest the necessity for more tailored surgical approaches, in patients with altered CSF parameters to mitigate the risk of CILV.

Our study explores the efficacy and economic benefits of neurosurgical teleconsultations in managing intracerebral hemorrhage (ICH), focusing on reducing unnecessary patient transfers and associated costs. ⋯ Neurosurgical teleconsultations offer a cost-effective alternative to traditional patient transfer methods for ICH management, providing substantial economic benefits while maintaining high physician and patient-family satisfaction levels. This study underscores the potential of our teleneurosurgery program to significantly reduce costs by reducing unnecessary financial burdens on patients' families and healthcare systems.
