Case ReportsAcute massive intravascular hemolysis and disseminated intravascular coagulation.
Two cases of acute intravascular hemolysis complicating acute disseminated intravascular coagulation were presented, one after normal delivery and the other after group A beta hemolytic streptococcal septicemia complicating acute myelomonoblastic leukemia. Neither case received heparin therapy. The first one survived while the latter succumbed. Intravascular hemolysis may not be a bad prognostic sign in such a condition.

Incidence, clinical manifestation and general management of snake bites.
There are regional patterns in snake-bites. Bites by cobras have a high incidence in Thailand and in the Philippines with a high case fatality rate. ⋯ Bites by Malayan pit vipers are also important in Thailand and Malaysia because of their high incidence. Bites by sea snakes are more common in Malaysia than in the Philippines and Thailand.

An outbreak of plague occurred in Hlegu Town, Burma in February and March 1977. Altogether 14 bubonic plague cases, with 2 deaths were reported, mostly children under 15 years of age. Twice as many males as females were affected. ⋯ The cheopis index in Hlegu Town was 1.17, and less than 0.5 in Hlegu suburb (Yankin-Yat) where no epizootic was reported. An active case search revealed 76 suspected plague cases out of which 11 were found to have bubonic plague. A field trial showed that plague vaccination during the outbreak did not result in a rise of detectable antibodies in persons inoculated.

A study of 1,437 unselected febrile patients in rural Malaysia yielded a diagnosis of leptospirosis in 86 (6.0%). The clinical syndrome was mild to moderate in all cases, jaundice was observed in only 2 (2.3%) and no deaths were documented. The diagnosis was not clinically obvious in most cases, and it is apparent that many infections must be going unnoticed at present.
