Development of labeled magnitude scales for the assessment of pain of dentin hypersensitivity.
To develop and test labeled magnitude (LM) scales that are sensitive to variations in pain associated with dentin hypersensitivity (DH). ⋯ LM scales were shown to provide some advantages compared to standard VAS when used to evaluate DH-associated pain. These advantages may be generalized to other low-level pain conditions.

To test the validity of the use of the Douleur Neuropathique en 4 Questions (DN4) questionnaire for burning mouth syndrome (BMS) patients, and to differentiate patients by measuring the time course of the pain in BMS patients over a period of 7 days with a visual analog scale (VAS). ⋯ The findings support the use of DN4 as a tool for screening BMS and reinforce the view that BMS is a clinical manifestation of a neuropathic disease. The methodology of this study can be used for a better description of the patients and the identification of subgroups.

To identify potential predictors of self-reported sleep bruxism (SB) within children's family and school environments. ⋯ The present investigation suggested that, among family and school-related matters, having divorced parents and not falling asleep easily were two predictors, even if weak, of a child's self-report of SB.

To investigate the reliability and magnitude of intraoral mechanical pain sensitivity by using a palpometer with add-on devices with different physical properties. ⋯ Reliability of intraoral novel palpometer measures of pressure sensitivity was excellent, and sensitivity to pressure stimulation was dependent on the applied force and physical properties of the add-on device. The study indicated that semi-quantitative assessment of intraoral mechanical sensitivity is feasible and could be applied in further studies on different intraoral pain conditions.
