Comparative Study Observational StudyPeriprocedural anticoagulation during left atrial ablation: interrupted and uninterrupted vitamin K-antagonists or uninterrupted novel anticoagulants.
There is a lack of data on anticoagulation requirements during ablation of atrial fibrillation (AF). This study compares different oral anticoagulation (OAC) strategies to evaluate risk of bleeding and thromboembolic complications. ⋯ Our dataset illustrates that uninterrupted VKA and DOAC have a better risk-benefit profile than VKA bridging. Bridging was associated with a 4.5× increased risk of complications and should be avoided, if possible.

Atrophic inferior vena cava is a marker of chronicity of intra-filter and inferior vena cava thrombosis: based on CT findings.
A permanently indwelling filter in the inferior vena cava (IVC) may induce caval thrombosis, which could develop and evolve from an acute to a chronic phase. The differential diagnosis of acute and chronic thromboses determines the treatment strategy. The role of computed tomography (CT) in diagnosing acute and chronic intra-filter and IVC thromboses has not been well established. This retrospective study summarizes the CT signs that indicate acute and chronic phases of intra-filter and IVC thromboses. ⋯ IVC thrombosis may result from filter placement. The chronicity of caval thrombotic occlusion is likely to be associated with filter protrusion and secondary IVC atrophy revealed on CT scans.

Characteristics of exercise capacity in female systemic lupus erythematosus associated pulmonary arterial hypertension patients.
To study the oxygen uptake efficiency and determine usefulness of submaximal parameters of oxygen uptake in systemic lupus erythematosus associated pulmonary arterial hypertension (SLE PAH) on performing a cardiopulmonary exercise test (CPET). ⋯ SLE PAH patients have cardiopulmonary exercise limitation with reduced oxygen uptake efficiency. VO2@ at AT, peak O2 pulse and O2 pulse at AT were significantly reduced (p < 0.05). Key CPET parameters correlated with elevated pulmonary vascular resistance (PVR). Submaximal parameters of oxygen uptake are equally useful in SLE PAH.

Comparative StudyAssociation of urinary sodium excretion with blood pressure and risk factors associated with hypertension among Cameroonian pygmies and bantus: a cross-sectional study.
High salt intake increases blood pressure (BP) and hypertension risk. This study aimed to examine association of urinary sodium excretion with BP and hypertension correlates among Cameroonian pygmies under hunter-gatherer subsistence mode and Bantus, living in urban area under unhealthy behavioral habits. ⋯ Hunter-gatherer pygmies exhibit low level of urinary sodium excretion related to low rate of hypertension and slower BP increase with age. Salt intake was a major driver of hypertension in our study population. Our findings highlight the need of efforts to implement nationwide prevention programs promoting risk factor screening and healthier lifestyles including reduction of dietary salt intake in Cameroonian.

Review Meta AnalysisComparison of drug-eluting balloon versus drug-eluting stent for treatment of coronary artery disease: a meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials.
Drug-eluting balloons (DEB) have significant value for treating coronary artery disease (CAD). However, the merits of using DEB versus drug-eluting stents (DES) to treat CAD remain controversial. Herein, we conducted a meta-analysis to compare the safety and efficacy of DEB and DES for treatment of CAD. ⋯ DEB is equivalent to DES in terms of safety for managing CAD, and DEB may be considered as an alternative choice for treatment of CAD.
