Renal resistive index and long-term outcome in patients with coronary artery disease.
The study aimed to evaluate the application of intra-renal Doppler flow indices for the prediction of major adverse cardiac and cerebrovascular events (MACCE) during 24-month follow-up in patients with coronary artery disease (CAD) subject to coronary angiography (CA). ⋯ Increased pre-procedural RRI, together with left main CAD, are associated with worse 24-month prognosis in patients with CAD referred for CA.

Usefulness of ECG to differentiate apical hypertrophic cardiomyopathy from non-ST elevation acute coronary syndrome.
Apical hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (ApHCM) is a phenotypic variant of nonobstructive HCM. ApHCM is characterized by left ventricular hypertrophy involve the distal apex. The electrocardiographic character of ApHCM can mimic non-ST elevation acute coronary syndrome (NSTEACS), triggering a series of studies and treatments that may be unnecessary. This study aimed to clarify the electrocardiogram (ECG) differences between the two diseases. ⋯ Compared with NSTEACS patients, ApHCM patients presented higher R and neg T wave voltage as well as a greater ST-segment depression in the 12-lead ECG. The ECG characteristics can help to differentiate ApHCM from NSTEACS in clinical setting.

Comparative StudyFactors associated with return of spontaneous circulation after out-of-hospital cardiac arrest in Poland: a one-year retrospective study.
Out-of-hospital cardiac arrest (OHCA) is a common reason for calls for intervention by emergency medical teams (EMTs) in Poland. Regardless of the mechanism, OHCA is a state in which the chance of survival is dependent on rapid action from bystanders and responding health professionals in emergency medical services (EMS). We aimed to identify factors associated with return of spontaneous circulation (ROSC). ⋯ The factors associated with ROSC were occurrence in a public place, CPR initiation by witnesses, and presence of a shockable rhythm. Gender, age, and the type of EMT did not influence ROSC. Low bystander CPR rates reinforce the need for further efforts to train the public in CPR.

Comparative StudyAdherence to statins and its impact on clinical outcomes: a retrospective population-based study in China.
While the benefit of adherence to statins on clinical outcomes has been proved, this benefit may be heterogeneous among patients who initiated statins for primary or secondary prevention purpose. This study aimed to investigate the impact of statin adherence on clinical outcomes among patients who initiated statins for primary and secondary prevention in China. ⋯ Statin adherence was very poor in China, and statin adherence is associated with decreased risk of MACE in patients for primary prevention, while further exploration is needed for secondary prevention.

Effects of trimetazidine on ventricular remodeling in coronary artery disease patients with left ventricular hypertrophy: the rationale and design of a randomized controlled trial.
Trimetazidine is a metabolic anti-ischemic agent, which increases the tolerance of cardiomyocytes to ischemia. However, few studies have explored the effect of trimetazidine on ventricular remodeling in coronary artery disease (CAD) patients undergoing percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) with left ventricular hypertrophy (LVH). ⋯ This study aims to demonstrate the effect of trimetazidine on left ventricular remodeling and myocardial ischemia in CAD patients undergoing PCI with LVH. Trimetazidine treatment is likely to improve the left ventricular remodeling, symptoms of angina and myocardial ischemia. It might also reduce the risk of MACEs in CAD patients undergoing PCI with LVH.
