Case ReportsInternal hemorrhage caused by a twisted malignant ovarian dysgerminoma: ultrasonographic findings of a rare case and review of the literature.
Ovarian cancer presents as an acute abdomen very rarely. The purpose of the study is the description of a right ovarian malignant dysgerminoma presenting as an abdominal emergency. ⋯ Ovarian malignant dysgerminoma may present as an acute abdomen because of torsion, passive blood congestion, rupture of superficial tumoral vessels and subsequent intra-abdominal hemorrhage. Ovarian dysgerminoma should be part of the differential diagnosis in a young woman with acute surgical abdomen and a solid heterogeneous pelvic mass detected by ultrasonographic scan.

Case ReportsPulmonary edema after ritodrine therapy during pregnancy and subsequent cesarean section with epidural anesthesia.
Ritodrine, a beta-sympathicomimetic drug that is frequently used for the prevention of preterm birth. Preterm delivery is an important cause of low birth weight. ⋯ Successful epidural anesthesia can be achieved with a slow-onset epidural block after moderate fluid infusion. We report the management of a pregnant patient developing pulmonary edema after ritodrine therapy and undergoing cesarean section with epidural anesthesia.

Case ReportsSpontaneous uterine rupture at an unusual site due to placenta percreta in a 21-week twin pregnancy with previous cesarean section.
Spontaneous uterine rupture is a rare, but serious complication of placenta percreta. This case report is about a spontaneous uterine rupture at an unusual site due to placenta percreta in a 21-week twin pregnancy with previous cesarean section. A 30-year-old, G3, P2 woman was referred to our unit in the 21st week of a twin pregnancy with acute abdomen. ⋯ A large transverse rupture at the posterior isthmus wall was detected. Subtotal hysterectomy with preservation of both ovaries was performed. Pathological investigation of the uterus revealed placenta percreta.

Tubo-ovarian abscesses: spectrum of sonographic findings with surgical and pathological correlations.
Pelvic inflammatory disease (PID) is a serious condition that can lead to abscess formation. The purpose of this study was to identify the different sonographic markers on gray scale and color Doppler sonography in tubo-ovarian abscesses. ⋯ The ultrasonographic findings of tubo-ovarian abscesses are not specific. The presence of a mass at the anatomic position of the ovary or at the cul-de-sac in combination with an increased number of white blood cells, elevated erythrocyte sedimentation rate and clinical findings are helpful for a correct diagnosis. Also, the color Doppler flow can further characterize the nature of the pelvic mass by detecting a significant rich blood flow in most cases of tuboovarian abscesses.

Randomized Controlled Trial Comparative Study Clinical TrialThe effect of delivery on umbilical arterial cord blood gases and lipid peroxides: comparison of vaginal delivery and cesarean section.
Umbilical arterial blood gas analysis is the most objective method to assess fetal well being at birth, is the gold standard assessment of uteroplacental function and fetal oxygenation/acid-base status at birth, and it excludes the diagnosis of birth asphyxia in approximately 80% of depressed newborns at term. This study was designed to determine the effect of the type of delivery on umbilical cord blood gases and on free radical activity together with antioxidation in the fetus. ⋯ The umbilical arterial PO2 was found to be higher in Group 3, and malondealdehyde and glutathione levels were lower in newborns of Group 2. It can be concluded that cesarean section with epidural anaesthesia is safer when lipid peroxides are concerned.
