Randomized Controlled TrialInsulin resistance and adiposity in relation to serum β-carotene levels.
To determine the effects of placebo vs an encapsulated supplement of fruit and vegetable juice concentrate (FVJC) on serum β-carotene levels, insulin resistance, adiposity, and subclinical inflammation in boys. ⋯ A 6-month supplementation with FVJC in the presence of nutritional counseling was associated with an increase in serum β-carotene concentrations and a reduction in adiposity in conjunction with an improvement in insulin resistance in OW boys.

Randomized Controlled TrialImproving detection by pediatric residents of endotracheal tube dislodgement with capnography: a randomized controlled trial.
The authors sought to determine if capnography could improve time to correction of a simulated endotracheal tube (ETT) dislodgement by pediatric residents. ⋯ Capnography decreased time to correction of ETT dislodgement by pediatric residents. Capnography should be considered as an essential monitoring device for intubated patients to enhance patient safety.

Comparative StudyUtility of contrast echocardiography for pulmonary arteriovenous malformation screening in pediatric hereditary hemorrhagic telangiectasia.
To evaluate the utility of transthoracic contrast echocardiography (TTCE) as a screening tool for pulmonary arteriovenous malformations (PAVMs) in children with hereditary hemorrhagic telangiectasia (HHT). ⋯ TTCE is a sensitive test for PAVMs in children with suspected HHT and can be a useful initial screening tool in pediatric HHT.
