Multicenter StudyChildren with chronic illness return to their baseline functional status after organ dysfunction on the first day of admission in the pediatric intensive care unit.
To determine chronic illness outcomes after admission with multiple organ dysfunction syndrome (MODS) for patients in the pediatric intensive care unit (PICU). ⋯ Chronic illness increased MODS incidence at PICU admission and impacted all-cause PICU mortality rates. Although, in aggregate, children who survive return to baseline functional status, this varies by chronic illness category.

Incidence and remission of sleep-disordered breathing and related symptoms in 6- to 17-year old children--the Tucson Children's Assessment of Sleep Apnea Study.
To determine the incidence and remission of sleep-disordered breathing in adolescent children. ⋯ Adolescent boys are more likely to have persistent and incident SDB than girls. Children with prevalent SDB are more likely to have development of obesity. These risks are similar to those observed in adults.

Randomized Controlled TrialHeat loss prevention in very preterm infants in delivery rooms: a prospective, randomized, controlled trial of polyethylene caps.
To evaluate in preterm infants whether polyethylene caps prevent heat loss after delivery better than polyethylene occlusive wrapping and conventional drying. ⋯ For very preterm infants, polyethylene caps are comparable with polyethylene occlusive skin wrapping to prevent heat loss after delivery. Both these methods are more effective than conventional treatment.

To describe the hemodynamic changes with time in preterm infants with clinical sepsis. ⋯ Preterm neonates with sepsis have relatively high left and right cardiac outputs and low SVRs. A decrease in RVO or LVO >50% compared with the initial measurement is associated with mortality.
