Multicenter StudyA Collaborative Learning Assessment of Developmental Care Practices for Infants in the Cardiac Intensive Care Unit.
Assess differences in approaches to and provision of developmental care for infants undergoing surgery for congenital heart disease. ⋯ A collaborative learning design fostered rapid dissemination, comparison, and sharing of strategies to approach a complex multidisciplinary care paradigm. Our assessment of experiences revealed marked variability across and within centers. The collaborative findings were a first step toward strategies to quantify and measure developmental care practices in the cardiac intensive care unit to assess the association of complex inpatient practices with long-term neurodevelopmental outcomes.

Serial Measurements of N-Terminal Pro-B-Type Natriuretic Peptide Serum Level for Monitoring Pulmonary Arterial Hypertension in Children.
To assess the association between serially measured N-terminal pro-B-type natriuretic peptide (NT-proBNP) serum levels and disease severity in children with pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH), and to assess its predictive value for death or (heart-)lung transplantation. ⋯ Throughout the disease course of pediatric PAH, serial measurements of NT-proBNP are associated with disease severity and transplant-free survival. Monitoring NT-proBNP levels over time provides important prognostic information that can support clinical decision making in combination with other established prognostic markers.

Improved Outcomes for Liver Transplantation in Patients with Biliary Atresia Since Pediatric End-Stage Liver Disease Implementation: Analysis of the Society of Pediatric Liver Transplantation Registry.
To identify changes in demographics, outcomes, and risk factors for patient and graft loss in patients with biliary atresia undergoing liver transplantation since Pediatric End-Stage Liver Disease implementation (2002). ⋯ The overall outcomes of patients receiving liver transplantation for patients with biliary atresia have improved since 2002 despite evidence of increased disease severity at the time of transplant. Risk factors impacting post-transplant morbidity and mortality in patients with biliary atresia are now mainly surgical including donor variables.

Maternal Gestational Diabetes and Type 2 Diabetes During Pregnancy and Risk of Childhood Asthma in Offspring.
To examine maternal preexisting type 2 diabetes (T2D) and gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) on risk of childhood asthma. ⋯ The risk of childhood asthma was predominately observed for exposure to preexisting T2D, small for GDM requiring medication, and not increased for GDM not requiring medication during pregnancy, compared with no diabetes during pregnancy.
