Randomized Controlled TrialA pilot study of pre-operative misoprostol in reducing operative blood loss during hysterectomy.
To investigate the effectiveness of a single pre-operative dose of sublingual misoprostol on reducing blood loss in abdominal hysterectomies performed for symptomatic uterine leiomyomas. ⋯ A single pre-operative dose of sublingual misoprostol is not effective in reducing intra-operative blood loss and need for post-operative blood transfusion after total abdominal hysterectomies for symptomatic uterine leiomyomas.

Isobaric laparoendoscopic single-site surgery with wound retractor for adnexal tumors: a single center experience with the initial 100 cases.
To report our experience with isobaric (gasless) transumbilical laparoendoscopic single-site (LESS) surgery in 100 patients with adnexal tumors at a single center. ⋯ With efficient wound retraction to create a wide and flexible orifice during instrumentation, the transumbilical wound retraction system combined with the subcutaneous abdominal wall-lift method contributes favorably to LESS surgery as a safe, feasible and reproducible alternative for a variety of ablative and reconstructive applications in the management of adnexal tumors.

Growth hormone reduces tissue damage in rat ovaries subjected to torsion and detorsion: biochemical and histopathologic evaluation.
To evaluate the effects of growth hormone (GH) as an antioxidant and tissue-protective agent and analyse the biochemical and histopathological changes in rat ovaries due to experimental ischemia and ischemia/reperfusion injury. ⋯ The administration of GH is protective against ischemia and/or ischemia/reperfusion-induced ovarian damage. This protective effect can be attributed to the antioxidant properties of GH.

Comparative StudyCompliance with screening mammography and breast sonography of young Asian women.
We evaluated compliance with mammography and breast sonography and the factors related to compliance. ⋯ For young Asian women with dense breast tissue, compliance with sonography for breast cancer screening was better than that with mammography.

Elevated C-reactive protein and monocyte chemoattractant protein-1 in patients with polycystic ovary syndrome.
C-reactive protein (CRP) and monocyte chemoattractant protein-1 (MCP-1) are inflammatory factors involved in the pathogenesis of atherosclerosis. This study aimed to analyse serum concentrations of CRP and MCP-1 in patients with polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS), and to test the effect of these factors on human THP-1 cells to determine the inflammatory state of these patients. ⋯ Patients with PCOS suffer low-grade chronic inflammation indicated by higher levels of CRP and MCP-1, which could lead to increased risk of atherogenesis.
