Is induced abortion with misoprostol a risk factor for late abortion or preterm delivery in subsequent pregnancies?
To examine whether a first or second trimester induced abortion with misoprostol influences the risk of late abortion or preterm delivery in subsequent pregnancies. ⋯ Despite the need for prudence, these results provide some reassurance that induced abortion with misoprostol during the first or second trimester of pregnancy is safe for subsequent pregnancies.

Comparative Study Clinical TrialAccuracy of the spot urinary microalbumin:creatinine ratio and visual dipsticks in hypertensive pregnant women.
New developments in proteinuria assessment have included the use of spot urinary microalbumin to creatinine ratio measurements. This study determines the accuracy of spot urinary microalbumin to creatinine ratio dipsticks and conventional visual dipsticks compared to the 24h urinary protein (gold standard) to detect significant proteinuria in hypertensive pregnant women. ⋯ Neither the visual dipstick nor the urinary microalbumin to creatinine ratio dipstick read on the Clinitek 50 system is accurate when compared to the total 24h urinary protein. Differences between the urinary microalbumin to creatinine ratio and 24h total urinary protein may be due to the variation in the albumin fraction of the total urinary protein of pre-eclampsia, technical problems with imprecision of the assay technique, and clinical causes of false positives and negatives. The improved sensitivity of the automated urinary microalbumin to creatinine ratio dipstick over the visual dipstick suggests it may be a suitable substitute for the visual dipstick in clinical practice.

Case ReportsSuccessful treatment of refractory endometriosis-related chronic pelvic pain with aromatase inhibitors in premenopausal patients.
Not every patient with endometriosis responds to currently recommended conventional medical treatment regimens. The objective of this study was to determine the efficacy and side effects of aromatase inhibitors in the treatment of premenopausal patients with endometriosis associated with chronic pelvic pain refractory to conventional treatment. ⋯ Aromatase inhibitors are beneficial in premenopausal women with chronic pelvic pain secondary to refractory endometriosis without compromising fertility and with minimal side effects. Further cohort and comparative studies are needed to confirm these observations.

A score-based method to improve the quality of emergency gynaecological ultrasound examination.
The quality of ultrasound (US) examination in the setting of a gynaecological emergency consultation is variable. Our aims were to develop and evaluate the feasibility of an image-based scoring method for the evaluation of standardised gynaecological images in this context. ⋯ A quality control policy for gynaecological emergencies based on image scoring is feasible and allows for good inter- and intra-reviewer reproducibility. A policy of this nature is likely to improve the quality of emergency gynaecological ultrasound examination.

Ectopic, autologous eutopic and normal endometrial stromal cells have altered expression and chemotactic activity of RANTES.
To evaluate if the expression and chemotactic activity of RANTES are different in IL-1beta treated autologous eutopic endometrial stromal cells compared to ectopic and normal endometrium. ⋯ Although the eutopic endometric of women with and without endometriosis are histologically similar, our findings confirm that different expression and chemotactic activity of RANTES exist between autologous eutopic and normal endometrium. The altered expression of RANTES and monocyte chemotactic activity observed in ectopic, autologous eutopic and normal endometrium suggest the autologous eutopic endometrium may contribute to the pathogenesis of endometriosis.
