Comparative StudyPulse oximetry during labour--does it give rise to hope? Value of saturation monitoring in comparison to fetal blood gas status.
Purpose of this presentation is to show the diagnostic power of fetal pulse oximetry in comparison to the other blood gas parameters from fetal blood samplings (FBS). The distribution of saturation readings in acidotic fetuses and normally oxygenated fetuses should be established. ⋯ The advantage of continuous fetal pulse oximetry surveilling the fetus under suspicion of hypoxia appears limited by the poor diagnostic power of the respiratory parameter saturation itself and by the impairment of the precision of the technology.

Trial of labour after two or three previous caesarean sections.
To investigate the safety of a trial of labour (TOL) after two or three previous caesarean sections. ⋯ Elective repeat caesarean section is not the only answer to a woman with two or three previous caesarean sections. A trial of labour can be a safe option for a selected group of women.

Multicenter StudyPerinatal outcome of fetuses with a birth weight greater than 4500 g: an analysis of 3356 cases.
To assess the perinatal outcome in a series of macrosomic fetuses according to the intended mode of delivery, and to estimate the individual risk of shoulder dystocia and brachial plexus injury upon information available either prior the onset of labor or at delivery. ⋯ Since some of these risk factors are known prior to delivery, each woman whose fetus is suspected to weight more than 4500 g should be counseled on her individual risk of severe perinatal morbidity before a decision on the mode of delivery is taken.

Comparative StudyPredictive value of pulse oximetry and fetal scalp blood pH in the case of meconium-stained amniotic fluid.
To compare the predictive value of intrapartum fetal pulse oximetry to that of fetal scalp blood pH for an abnormal neonatal outcome in the case of thick meconium. ⋯ The predictive value of fetal scalp blood pH is poor in case of meconium, whereas the predictive value of pulse oximetry seems to be unchanged in this situation.

Comparative StudyForceps delivery and the use of synthetic opioid analgesia during epidural anaesthesia.
To verify whether the use of sufentanil during obstetric epidural anaesthesia (EA) was accompanied by an increase in the rate of instrumental extraction. ⋯ The addition of sufentanil to our protocol for EA has not altered the practice of instrumental extraction in our department. With EA, the rate of forceps delivery is multiplied by 4, irrespective of the protocol used.
