This retrospective cohort study aimed to investigate the association between intraoperative dexmedetomidine infusion and emergence agitation (EA), and recovery profiles after lung surgery in adult patients. It was hypothesized that dexmedetomidine was associated with reduced EA and improved recovery profiles. ⋯ This retrospective study suggested that intraoperative dexmedetomidine infusion was associated with a lower incidence of EA, rescue analgesia, and shivering in adults after lung surgery. Intraoperative bradycardia was the main side effect.

Aim: Tramadol is widely used to treat acute, chronic, and neuropathic pain. Its primary active metabolite, O-desmethyltramadol (M1), is mainly responsible for its µ-opioid receptor-related analgesic effect. Tramadol is metabolized to M1 mainly by the cytochrome P450 (CYP) 2D6 enzyme, and to other metabolites by CYP3A4 and CYP2B6. ⋯ Genetic polymorphisms of CYP2D6 correlated with the clearance of tramadol, and clearance from the central compartment to the metabolite compartment. Conclusion: The parent-metabolite model successfully characterized the PK of tramadol and its metabolite M1 in healthy Korean male subjects. These results could be applied to evaluate plasma tramadol concentrations after various dosing regimens.

Various and opposite roles of epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG) have been reported in different studies. We aimed to investigate how EGCG affects the cerebral injury in a cardiac arrest/cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CA/CPR) model of rat. ⋯ EGCG alleviated global cerebral IRI by restoring mitochondrial dysfunction and ERK modulation in a rat CA/CPR model, which might make it a potential candidate agent against IRI after CA/CPR in the future. Further study is needed to determine whether higher dosage of EGCG might aggravate cerebral IRI post-CA/CPR.

Spinal cord injury (SCI) is a relatively common, devastating traumatic condition resulting in permanent disability. In this study, the use of exosomes derived from bone mesenchymal stem cells (BMSCs-Exo) as a cell-free therapy for the treatment of SCI in rats was investigated to gain insights into their mechanisms of action. ⋯ BMSCs-Exo play a protective role in spinal cord injury by inhibiting complement mRNA synthesis and release and by inhibiting SCI-activated NF-κB by binding to microglia.

The meta-analysis was conducted to assess the effectiveness and safety of intravenous administration of dexmedetomidine for cesarean section under general anesthesia, as well as neonatal outcomes. ⋯ Intravenous administration of dexmedetomidine could efficiently attenuate the maternal cardiovascular response during cesarean section, without affecting Apgar score of the neonate.
