Multicenter StudyEvaluation of drug-prescribing patterns based on the WHO prescribing indicators at outpatient clinics of five hospitals in Jordan: a cross-sectional study .
Irrational drug prescribing is considered one of the major challenges for the healthcare sectors worldwide, leading to negative outcomes in patients including various drug-related problems, such as polypharmacy, adverse drug events, more demands on drug monitoring, and unwanted increase in treatment cost. ⋯ The average number of prescribed drugs per encounter was higher than what was considered ideal according to WHO standards; the other issue found was a lower percentage of generic prescribing compared to WHO ideal value. The rest of prescribing indicators including the injections prescribing, antibiotics prescribing, and prescribing from the essential drug list were within the optimal range of values recommended by the WHO. .

Effects of Danggui Sini decoction on neuropathic pain: experimental studies and clinical pharmacological significance of inhibiting glial activation and proinflammatory cytokines in the spinal cord .
Neuropathic pain responds poorly to drug treatments. Partial relief is achieved in only about half of the patients. Danggui Sini decoction (DSD), an aqueous extract of Angelica sinensis, Ramulus Cinnamomi, and Radix Puerariae, has been used extensively in China to treat inflammatory and ischemic diseases. The current study examined the putative effects of DSD on neuropathic pain. ⋯ DSD can alleviate CCI and diabetes-induced neuropathic pain, and its effectiveness might be due to the inhibition of neuroinflammation in the spinal dorsal horn. The anti-inflammation effect of DSD may be related to the suppression of spinal NF-κB activation and/or cytokines expression. .

Randomized Controlled TrialDiclofenac systemic bioavailability of a topical 1% diclofenac + 3% menthol combination gel vs. an oral diclofenac tablet in healthy volunteers: a randomized, open-label, crossover study .
Evaluate systemic exposure with repeated topical application of a fixed-combination topical gel product containing 1% diclofenac sodium and 3% menthol in either of 2 formulation packages relative to oral administration. ⋯ As expected, systemic exposure was significantly lower with the topical diclofenac/menthol treatment regimens compared with oral diclofenac. Local skin AEs were increased with the topical combination product, but the risk of systemic AEs was low. .

Corrective effect of norepinephrine on hypotension induced by dexmedetomidine in critically ill patients.
To evaluate the corrective effect of norepinephrine on hypotension induced by dexmedetomidine through monitoring sedation status, hemodynamics as well as oxygen metabolism. ⋯ Dexmedetomidine plays an important role in ICU patients due to its pharmacological ability of sedation and analgesia. In our study, dexmedetomidine was successfully applied to ensure goal-directed sedation therapy (GDST). Norepinephrine can correct hypotension and bradycardia induced by intravenous dexmedetomidine. According to the hemodynamic indexes and oxygen metabolism indexes, the application of dexmedetomidine or the combination of dexmedetomidine with norepinephrine are both safe and appropriate to maintain the sedation status and hemodynamic situation in ICU patients. .

Evaluation of a novel autoinjector for subcutaneous self-administration of belimumab in systemic lupus erythematosus .
To study self-administration and pharmacokinetics (PK) of subcutaneous (SC) belimumab in patients with systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE). ⋯ Patients with SLE successfully self-administered belimumab SC using a novel autoinjector; the PK profile was stable following a switch from IV with acceptable AE and pain levels. The recommended dosing interval between IV to SC dosing is 1 - 4 weeks. .
