Randomized Controlled Trial
Evaluation of a training and communication-network nephrology program for community pharmacists.
To assess the feasibility and impact of implementing ProFiL program to optimize community-pharmacist management of drug-related problems among chronic kidney disease patients followed in a predialysis clinic. The program comprises a training workshop, communication-network program and consultation service. ⋯ The results of this pilot study suggest that ProFiL can be implemented and may help community pharmacists intervene more frequently to manage drug-related problems. However, a larger-scale study with longer follow-up is necessary to evaluate the impact of the program on management of drug-related problems and its clinical relevance.

To estimate outpatient utilization of psychotropic drugs before and after pharmaceutical reform in Latvia. ⋯ The introduction of new norms neither increased nor decreased the number of psychotropic drug prescriptions filled. The most often prescribed psychotropic drugs over 4-year period were benzodiazepines and their derivates. Disease codes on the prescriptions fully justified a reason for psychotropic drug use.

To demonstrate the effectiveness of an intervention in antibiotics prescribing, and evaluate the use of antibiotics in the pediatric intensive care unit (PICU) at the Beijing Children's Hospital. ⋯ Our interventions led to a significant reduction of broad-spectrum antibiotic prescribing associated with the significant reduction in bacterial resistance in the PICU. The implementation of the antibiotics guideline appeared to be effective.

To examine pharmacists' perceptions and opinions on the potential causes of dispensing errors and the ways to prevent them in community pharmacies, and to assess whether pharmacists' perceptions reflect the system approach. ⋯ Finnish community pharmacists still, to some extent, have the person-centred approach to medication safety although signs of the system approach were also evident. Attitudinal changes still have to take place, as well as changes to the practice environment, in order to get the system approach fully implemented in the Finnish community pharmacies.

To explore consumers' attitudes towards, and expectations of, adherence support services in primary health care, specifically in community pharmacy; and to explore consumers' attitudes towards the concept of concordance. ⋯ Pharmacists should consider consumers' needs for information and establishing concordance, as well as their expectations of the pharmacy profession, in delivering concordance based adherence support services. Given participants' high demand for medicine information, an opportunity might exist for pharmacists to influence consumers' expectations by offering information which is tailored towards their needs.
