Comparative StudyThe efficacy of oral anticholinergics for sympathetic overactivity in a thoracic surgery clinic.
Little is known of the success rates of oral anticholinergics for the treatment of primary hyperhidrosis and facial blushing as alternatives to surgical intervention. We examine predictors of success with these medications. ⋯ The majority of patients presenting with sympathetic overactivity decline surgery when a trial of oral anticholinergics is included in the treatment algorithm. Facial blushing and palmar symptoms were each associated with choosing surgery.

Excision of anomalous muscle bundles as an important addition to extended septal myectomy for treatment of left ventricular outflow tract obstruction.
This study aims to report our preliminary experience and anatomic findings in the surgical treatment and postoperative management of hypertrophic obstructive cardiomyopathy. ⋯ Anomalous muscle bundles are common in hypertrophic obstructive cardiomyopathy, and they may lead to middle-apical obstruction. Surgical myectomy provides excellent clinical outcomes with low risk for sufficient relief of obstruction and radical correction of intraventricular anomalies in patients with hypertrophic obstructive cardiomyopathy.

Computed tomography-guided patent blue vital dye localization of pulmonary nodules in uniportal thoracoscopy.
Due to the limitations of the small single incision, an ideal preoperative localization technique is essential for surgical resection of small pulmonary nodules by uniportal video-assisted thoracoscopic surgery (VATS). The aim of this study is to evaluate the usefulness and safety of preoperative computed tomography (CT)-guided patent blue vital (PBV) dye localization in patients with small indeterminate pulmonary nodules who have undergone uniportal VATS for lung resection. ⋯ Preoperative CT-guided PBV dye localization is a feasible, safe, and accurate procedure. It makes uniportal VATS easy for small, poorly located pulmonary nodules with GGO predominance and synchronous multiple nodules.

Comparative StudyOutcomes of ring versus suture annuloplasty for tricuspid valve repair in patients undergoing mitral valve surgery.
There is controversy regarding the comparative effectiveness of methods of tricuspid valve (TV) repair-prosthetic ring versus suture annuloplasty-in patients undergoing operation for primary mitral valve (MV) disease. In this study, we analyzed factors associated with patient survival and recurrent tricuspid regurgitation (TR) following TV repair and focused on results stratified by method of tricuspid valve repair. ⋯ Late survival and TV durability following concomitant TV repair during MV surgery did not differ with respect to TV repair technique. In this series of patients with repaired tricuspid valves, etiology of MV disease did not influence postoperative changes in TR.
