Impact of the integrated comprehensive care program post-thoracic surgery: A propensity score-matched study.
Thoracic surgery is associated with significant rates of postoperative morbidity and postdischarge return to the hospital or emergency department (ED). This study aims to assess the impact of a novel integrated patient-centered, hospital-based multidisciplinary community program (Integrated Comprehensive Care [ICC]) on postdischarge outcomes in patients undergoing thoracic surgery compared to routine care. ⋯ The ICC program is associated with shorter LOS, fewer ED visits and readmissions after discharge, and ultimately may decrease postoperative mortality.

Impact of trisomy 13 and 18 on airway anomalies and pulmonary complications after cardiac surgery.
To determine the prevalence and influence of clinically significant airway and/or respiratory abnormalities in patients with trisomy 13 and 18 undergoing cardiac surgery. ⋯ Although most trisomy 13/18 patients survive cardiac surgery, these patients have an increased incidence of airway complications, requiring longer intensive respiratory support postoperatively that contributes to longer length of stay. Parental guidance before cardiac surgery should include a discussion about postoperative airway management.
