Observational StudyLong-term outcomes of hemiarch replacement with hypothermic circulatory arrest and retrograde cerebral perfusion.
This study sought to report outcomes of hemiarch replacement with hypothermic circulatory arrest and retrograde cerebral perfusion, and secondarily, to report outcomes of this operative approach by type of underlying aortic disease. ⋯ Morbidity and mortality after hemiarch replacement with hypothermic circulatory arrest plus retrograde cerebral perfusion are acceptably low, and this operative approach may be as advantageous for AAD as it is for aneurysm.

Outcomes of pulmonary artery sling repair without tracheoplasty.
This study aimed to investigate surgical outcomes of pulmonary artery (PA) sling without tracheoplasty. ⋯ PA sling repair without tracheal surgery might be a reasonable surgical option with rare need for tracheal intervention. Hospital readmissions for respiratory symptoms are more frequently required in patients with smaller tracheal diameter and all readmissions were limited to within 2 years after repair.

This study aims to investigate the trends, outcomes, and risk factors for mortality after redo orthotopic heart transplantation. ⋯ Although infrequently performed, redo orthotopic heart transplantation remains associated with worse post-transplant outcomes compared with primary orthotopic heart transplantation. Although several high-risk features were identified to affect post-retransplant outcomes in the acute perioperative period, donor characteristics such as hypertension and decreased ejection fraction continue to have lasting negative impacts in the longer term.

Sex-based outcomes of surgical myectomy for hypertrophic cardiomyopathy: An analysis from the National Readmission Database.
There is a paucity of data on sex differences in outcomes after surgical myectomy (SM) for hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM). ⋯ Among the HCM cohort who received SM, significant sex-based differences in the outcomes were observed. Women had higher new pacemaker insertion rate, higher non-home discharge rate, and higher rate of 30-day readmission compared with men.

Epicardial left atrial appendage clip occlusion in patients with atrial fibrillation during minimally invasive cardiac surgery.
The left atrial appendage is a major source of stroke in patients with atrial fibrillation, and clinical benefits of left atrial appendage occlusion have been demonstrated in previous studies. Complete exclusion of the left atrial appendage has been recently available with an epicardial clipping device in the setting of minimally invasive cardiac surgery. ⋯ Left atrial appendage occlusion using an epicardial clipping device during cardiac surgery can be performed successfully in a minimally invasive cardiac surgery setting in selected patients.
